I have one of those and I used it for a long time. I eventually replaced it, not that I got rid of it. It bought something that said case is easier to haul around. I specifically bought this one That is no longer available

They list the sizes and thread in the top so when you open it he can quickly see where things are that you want. And since I have both I usually grab the one in the case. But I used one that dangle from an out for many years before I bought the other

Was able to meet up with my local SO driver last week. I’m a home gamer, but he’s nice enough to meet if i text him and can be a little flexible with his schedule. His warehouse is super close to my work as well. I needed to warranty a 27mm impact and after replacing the oil filter housing my wife’s BMW B48 powered car, I wanted to pick up a 1/4” E10 socket. He had to order RTLE100, but this one also has a 11mm hex on the outside to use with a ratcheting wrench. While on the truck, I saw the 5” 2 position slip joint pliers LN44BCF and threw those in. They always get you with something on the truck haha.

A caution on these: 1/4 hex is really not up tot he torque that you can need on stuck 1/2" drive sockets or even 3/8" drive. I found these type of things twist up like a pretzel regardless of brand if you use them on a stronger impact and hammer. In that process they can deform and get stuck in the chuck and can be a pain to extract. I gave up trying to find a strong enough version (I doubt possible) and bought a 3/8" anvil battery impact for automotive work. That ended the problem. I can use that with a 3/8 to 1/2" adapter or a hex adapter (I do not do this much since I have a 1/4 hex impact driver for screws etc ... but when I might need another) .

I had that issue with several adapters, ended up buying a snap on one and it's been a champ. I regularly take off 13s and 15mms with it.

I'm going to see how much my 1/4" Dewalt impact driver can take

When I first got my DeWalt hex impact driver, one of the first things I did was put an adaptor like this into it, put a 3/8" dr. 17mm socket on it, and walk over to the ol' Volkswagen to see if it could remove a lug bolt. (One that was last installed by me, with a torque wrench, and some small residue of antiseize in its past.)

And the adapter was broken in half.

I, too, soon ordered a 3/8" dr. anvil version of the same DeWalt li'l gun, and I've been happy with both since.

Interesting - so a hex impact driver makes enough torque to break a hex shank. Perhaps it's a side effect of the ability to turn things quickly, that if they're not turning at all, something's going to break.

I have a couple of different thread checkers, including that plate style one mentioned a few posts up, but I also have that ball-style thread thread detective shown above and they are hands down my favorite... I'm not sure they are still available to purchase though.

I bought them many years ago from Rockler. They don't have that exact style anymore. There are many variants on the theme. Just Google "Thread Checkers" or search on Rockler.com and see what's out there.

It will lift the claimed weight while in complete contact with a flat item, but that's perhaps an unusual situation. The head diameter is 5mm. The wire is 2.5mm, quite normal and proportional, but thicker may have been better for a little more rigidity.

This is the variable temperature kit. Tried it on my kill-a-watt. it ranges from ~80w on just fan to ~1700w on full heat, 9 steps in between.

I don't work on cars much aside from oil changes but did replace a cracked intake boot on my girlfriends car this past weekend in the warehouse at work. In typical fashion I dropped a bolt down in the engine and spent 15 minutes looking for it and retrieving it.

As soon as I got home I ordered these Koken nut grip sockets to prevent lost bolts/nuts in the future as it's a common occurrence for me.



While online I also ordered a cheap set of electrical disconnect pliers since I had to finagle the mass airflow sensor replacing the intake boot. These seemed decent and I'll probably use them twice a year. This brand is part of Great Star tools(aka SK tools) according to a slip in the box.

So I regularly pick up tools for my guys and every once in awhile someone will reciprocate.

This week one of my sups picked this light for me. And after using it today was insanely impressed with it. This blows away the new Klein i recently got for working inside control panels and the various Milwaukee units I have.

As far as overall quality, we’ll see how well it hangs but check out all the configurations this thing does. For now it gets a gold star.


One feature I really like is if you have the illuminator closed, it shuts it off

And you can unscrew it from the pedestal and use the magnetic base.

I received this Astro Pneumatic bit set yesterday. COO is stated as Taiwan. The bits and accessories are all pretty generic.

This exact same set is available under various brand names and in either a red or blue blow moulded case.

Time will tell what the quality of the bits is like, but I will most likely swap out some of the most common for "better" quality ones. I didn't really need any more bits as I have got hundreds, but I wanted a single case to house most types.

I paid £9 including VAT and postage which is less than what a lot of the same sets sell for.

I have the same set in a blue case, from the brand "MP" Minnesota Pneumatic. The bits have help up great so far. This set is an excellent buy.

I recently sent in photos of a broken Craftsman USA Made Torx T-handle driver. Customer service told me they didn't have any Torx T-Handles to offer as replacements, but wanted to send something...so they sent me this entire set of SAE / Metric drivers with stands. I am impressed by the customer service, I have never had to warranty a Craftsman tool before especially after the change of ownership, but this was easy and fairly fast. Although they could not replace the tool like for like...they wanted and insisted on sending this set to me. Thanks SBD / Craftsman.
