Have 3 sets of 3/8" deep 12pt sockets. Armstrong, Proto and SK purchased for the sake of comparison. Let's just say they all disappointed me in their quality control. Mybe it's time for Nepros....

Don't be discouraged by the Snap On evangelists and the negative people who have nothing of value to contribute. I understand your concern. I have been doing the same thing (Wright, Williams USA, Proto) for my SAE sockets. I went with Nepros for all my metric sockets. Check out the Nepros thread. I posted there last night.

Those are awesome! I deff think ill be getting some of those when mine wears out laters this year or so. The striker rod is nice and thick right (no ****** puns please lol) and is the steel built into the cap/ use the cap as a striker?

I really like that design and it looks great for equipping on a survival knife or throwing on a day pack. I like US made stuff especially when its made by private sellers instead of big companies. Deff will by shoot me a PM with some details.

Thanks

Nepro's ?? OCD therapy would be better.

yeah yeah, I know. For those that just use their sockets without any concern for the inside I can understand. But if you really stop to think about it.... you would see what a horrible quality control our USA made tools have. It is pathetic. I'm disgusted by them. They can't compare to stuff made elsewhere. If Snap-On and MAC are the only two US made tools that actually have quality control, then it goes to show you a lot about how crappy the US makes tools. I do hate reading over and over about threads on US vs RoW (rest of world) so this isn't about that. It's about finding a socket company to believe in.

I will be posting a full review and I can tell you it will include stuff some people haven't realize. I discovered last night the detents and the balls aren't the same size for every 3/8" company. CM uses small balls. Some ratchets have large balls. The proto sockets require large balls and have horrible consistency in placement. The Armstrong has the best detents. The Proto chrome is so much better than SK. well, I'll write it all up and maybe we can collaborate on all the information.

OCD, yes. And it's overtaken my life. I just want to buy some nice sockets that won't rust. Rusty tools are not allowed in my toolbox. :eyecrazy:

i really like these, id love to pick one up from you

Thanks everyone.

I had not planned on PM'ing anyone, figured once you guys heard the price, you guys would run fast & never even look back.

Since it's not related to this thread I'll just post once about them & try to cover everything.

These are made from grade 5 Titanium 6AL4V, 5/8" diameter & 1.6" in length. Cap is sealed with an oring & has a hidden seam (split is hidden between a groove). There is no built in striker. I machine these manually on a manual lathe, no CNC here which means they are time consuming to make & I don't mass produce them.

The ferro rod (aka firesteel or misch metal) is 5/16" in dia & has a striking area of about 1.5" in length. They start out as 4" length rods that I get from Going Gear (Otter) which I then cut in half & thread so they screw into the body. Although I thread them on the lathe, I use a common thread so you can simply use a die to thread replacements yourself. I have tried threading them with a die to make sure of this.

I normally sold these for a bill (yes that's two 0s) in bare machined finish not including shipping or PP fees. Includes two threaded ferro rods. Anodizing, stonewashed, carbidized, & other finishes extra.

I only have the two green ones left & don't plan on making anymore to sell. I'll let these go for $95 ea shipped US, PP fees included. If you are interested in one, shoot me a PM.

I realize they are not cheap & you probably don't need them to be made out of Titanium but that's what they are & is what I like to make things out of.

Small haul today. Nothing real cool, but did ok for the money i think.

Went to Wholesale Tool. Weird store. Tons of stuff, some things priced well, most of it priced terribly. Seas of cheap chinese **** with some nice stuff interspersed. Saw a big Wiha hammer (for $55, ugh), buncha SK tools, and some Waterloo boxes. There was a nice Waterloo workbench with a few drawers in it for $149 that i may go back and get. Seemed pretty solid. Only had 30 minutes to look around, only picked up the probe for 85 cents. Didn't have a small one like that.

Then went to the flea market. Didn't stick around real long, but there were some other booths i didn't take a good look at. Didn't see my old guy that usually has a TON of tools, so didn't bother.

Got:
Mac BWS7BF (not for a great price now that i look it up, but meh)
Great Neck 1/4 driver
Thorsen 11/16 combo wrench
Thorsen 9/16 and 1/2 wrench
Billings 1/2 combo wrench
Easco 5/8 combo wrench
Fuller 12mm combo wrench. (Anyone have info on this? Looks exactly like a CM RP...)

I will probably not use any of the wrenches save for the Fuller. I figure eventually i'll have enough stuff i can pass it all on as a lot worth shipping to someone here. :)

20120428_144956.jpg

Then went to HF with my buddy since he needed some cheap pry bars. (Got the black hard handle ones, i don't hate them)

Raided the clearance bin, snagged a small set of vice grips (Pittsburgh Pro line, that whole line intrigues me, seems to be pretty good quality from the small time i've messed with them.), wire nuts (always using these to mock stuff up.), rubber mallet, and of course, the free flashlight. "Saved" more than i spent, so i'm ok with it.

20120428_144336.jpg

Ok so i thought i'd make up for the somewhat crappy haul yesterday with....

THIS.

20120429_203024.jpg

20120429_203050.jpg

That's about 60lbs of tools. I saw a bunch of fuller, Bonney, CM USA, JH Williams, a SnapOn screwdriver or two, bunch of Vaco, etc etc etc...

There's at least 250 sockets in there. I have much sorting to do.

$30. :evil::pimpflash

I also picked up the Matco 3-piece box set i posted about yesterday. I have a feeling that once i take stock of all my tools again, i'll already be on the lookout for another box. :p

Sweet! I do quite a bit of machining by hand (just as a hobby, not a professionally). A lot of folks that may not be familiar with manual machining would be surprised how long it can take to make something that intricate manually. Very nicely done!

I got this little beauty for $10. It's in super nice condition, and it still has the original cord that says Craftsman.

There is no reverse switch on it. But that's ok, I'm not going to use it, just look at it.

My dad had one like that when I was a kid--meaning metal housing. No idea on the brand.

That sucker would shock the $hit out of you every once in a while.:shocking:

Made drilling a very exciting adventure.

HAHA---what memories.

Yea, there's no ground lug on the plug. It's probably nicer to look at than to use.

A bunch of Bonneys.
20120430_225246.jpg

Weird stuff i can't identify. The two big wrench things, and the Oatey Mini Plane are USA, the red pliers are german.
20120430_222509.jpg

Hodgepodge of strange.
20120430_224722.jpg

All USA, two Bonneys, one big mother.
20120430_222248.jpg

Good old Craftsman RPs.
20120430_224425.jpg

Buncha spark plug sockets in different sizes.
20120430_233937.jpg

Vaco Foot Long hex keys (complete set)
20120430_234330.jpg

Huge Williams 1 1/4 extension
20120430_234211.jpg

Crapload of import standard sockets:
20120430_233606.jpg

Slightly smaller crapload of import metric sockets:
20120430_233009.jpg

Craftsman driver light!
20120430_234659.jpg

And some more stuff.

Unfortunately, there's a bit less in there that i needed/could really use, so i'll be passing a lot of it along for cheap once i get it more organized, probably tomorrow. Found a few "V" and "EE" Craftsman sockets that i have no use for.

New box art!

So since Im stuck underway for a few tool orders I asked Epstein's if they would draw a Sailor fighting a ship with a big *** wrench, and they delivered!

Inside are Wright metric combo set +24mm. Knipex plier wrench 7", level, tool grabber, pick set, carbide pen, and the biggest punch/chisel set they had.

I just bought the Makita 18V cordless impact wrench from Home Depot. I have already got the impact driver and the drill.

7133775665_1fd2a66fac_c.jpg

The wrench was made in Japan, not China like the impact driver and hammer drill.
