the note that came with the air hammer said it was a cotter pin remover. first I've ever seen like it. Wasn't part of the auction but as far as I can tell, the seller owns a welding/fab shop and the bit looks custom made. whoever made it did a great job. now I just have to get something with huge cotter pins to work on!!

Ah I see. Must be one big stubborn cotter pin to need something like that!

Funny Rat Fink...Speaking of lights, I bought 3 of those "butterfly" style LED lights that either sit flat, partially folded, hanging or magnetly stuck that are rechargeable. Now, they are very nice.

Oh, bought a Makita Angle Grinder 4.25/.50" at HD clearence, then tonight bought a Milky Angle Grinder from a different store. So will get rid of Makita sence I don't have any others to match. I know, might be silly?

You need pics?

Thanks, JASTECH & Son

Ok so I got some of the NOS USA kobalt ratchets from cripe someone was posting around here. Not happy  they look good but work like hell the 1/2" is the only one that works half right. The 3/8 selector slides into neutral when pushed to the right and the 1/4"......I don't even know wtf his deal is its just not right. So any ideas are more then welcome. maybe new rebuild kits? send them back for new? (not sure how well cripe is to deal with) I don't want to trade on a foreign ratchet.(not that anything is wrong with them I'm just working on my USA tool count =).) So have look and tell me who made them ;)

They're the same internally as the USA made Craftsman ratchets. Open and use a light oil and see what happens.

Would those be the same as the Full Polish Craftsmans?
If so, would you happen to know the tooth count (or arc)?

Thanks. :)

I think the fully polished Craftsmans and regular raised panels Craftsmans use the same 36 tooth mechanism. Of course, I'm referring to the USA made versions.

I appreciate it.

Been looking for say 72+ tooth quick release of decent quality, USA or otherwise, suitable for tight spots (not enough swing to engage the teeth on my 36t RP Craftsmans).

Just a DIY'er, so I can't really justify paying for a Snap On.

if you can forget the quick release, the Armstrong aerospace ratchets on Epstein are a really good value. 88 teeth in the 1/4 and 3/8 , the 1/2 is 60 tooth but can be switched to an 88 tooth.

I've looked at Armstrong's catalog for an 88t with a quick release (highly interested in it based on GJ), and found it didn't exist. My concern is with the ball not having enough grip to pull an extension or socket out of a tight spot (have run into slightly deformed nuts & bolt heads before).

Am I over-thinking this too much?

you are over thinking it. people get along just fine with out the quick release. once you use the Armstrong aerospace ratchet you will forget about the quick release.

Probably give one a try then. Thanks. :)

Just need keep myself under control at Epstein's site (always seem to have something too tempting). :eyecrazy:

Dremel 4000 ... from my initial test looks like this is a good improvement over the older model I have ( 395 ) which it will replace

Those are basically Craftsman RPs. Any RP repair kit should work in them if the lube doesn't do the job.

Though, I'll be honest with you, the Taiwanese Kobalts now at your local Lowes are twice the ratchet you have there. Hate to say it, but if you did a warranty replace, it would be an upgrade.

Not quick release, but the Williams USA roundheads (B-52 and S-52) are 72 teeth, USA-stamped, and smooth as butter. Otherwise, the Craftsman Premiums are really nice (84-tooth, USA).

Edited to correct: Premiums are not quick release. I guess I knew that, but got it jumbled in my head with the thin profiles. Thanks for the heads up, Chad.

The current Kobalts aren't bad, 72 teeth and fairly smooth. The only thing I don't like about them is the thickness of the head! they are at least twice as thick as my gearwrench ratchets. I would much prefer 60 teeth and thin profile vs 72teeth and twice as thick. the craftsman premium are nice, but are priced accordingly. i want to upgrade my gearwrench ratchets with the matco 88 kits, but can't find someone who will sell me the repair kit.

Hasn't arrived yet...but I finally bought a tap and die set. 76 piece USA Craftsman. I didn't steal it, but I do feel like I paid a fair price and I'm happy about it.

Thanks for the info fellas. I'll have to send him an order in the future.

They/he is great to do business with. That's where all my 1/4 drive Williams USA sockets came from. And in the not too distant future, my 1/2 drive and some more 3/8 drive, and whatever else I can get my hands on.
