picked up my craftsman jobvise!
No pics, but I just bought a MINT condition 20 volt dewalt impact driver/hammer drill combo with 2 3AH batteries, charger, and contractor bag for 200 bucks
Nice I have the corded 1/2 Dewalt impact driver for a few years and it has worked great for my car needs. removes rusty fasteners on suspension no problem but I really want an air compressor though..for the more options of tools. just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
One good thing about a shop is that I don't have to worry about air supply...cordless tools are getting better every 6 months or so though...and pretty soon you'll see kids starting out with no air tools at all I bet
Ok, so Canadian Tire had a sale on impact socket sets a couple of weeks ago: regular prices for 119 piece set was $299.00, which they value at $399.00 if bought separately( I know, dreaming LOL!) on sale for $119.00...I felt it was a great buy. Funny thing is, they also had on a separate special, the same socket set bundled with an electric impact gun....for the same price!! Funnier yet, they were not in the same tool area of the store, so anyone in the tool section that stored the impact sockets, would have missed the bundled package sale, as they were kept in another location. Not saying it's the best quality, but for $119.00 for the complete package, I'm quite happy!

That should be me soon(the kid with only cordless) I'm sure I'll still have a decent 1/2" air impact though.

Not until they can make cordless tools the same power and size... My only cordless tools are 7.2v because the bigger ones are so huge and heavy they're pointless. My 50' air hose weighs less than the battery on an 18v impact.
This is true...but what if you ever have to go change a flat on a used car that's way far from your hose? Not something I've ran into personally, but it is possible...i don't have a half inch cordless impact yet, but I may buy the dewalt soon...

Sampling the NWS waters. Pretty nice... I think I'm hooked.

Regarding thermometer, what are some uses for it?![]()
For automotive:
check performance of HVAC system, check if catalytic converter is working, check thermostat function, check if radiator/heater core has blockage, check for difference in brake rotor temperatures.
Add to that checking exhaust manifolds for a cold cylinder. Fastest way to figure out which cylinder is having issues without a compression test.

I picked it up to check for cold/hot spots around doors and windows. My buddies dad uses them for his BBQ/Smoker. I guess there are tons of other uses I didnt know of as well... thnx fellaz.
edit: I was testing everything in my room and it seems my monitor puts out quite a bit more heat than my pc does.
Just ordered this "little" set of deep impacts to finish off my SAE sizes. Decided to stick with TEKTON for 1/2" drive SAE and they'll be the only red colored boxes/trays in my drawers. It's cool they match each other with no redundancy. (includes the elusive 1 3/16" size too!) Too bad these aren't dual-marked with a roll-stamp though.
5 sockets: 1-3/16-Inch, 1-5/16-Inch, 1-3/8-Inch, 1-7/16-Inch, 1-1/2-Inch

My 1/2" drive set is finished (for now). EDIT: Oh, snap. I just realized this "impact" deep sockets are not "real" impact sockets. Shucks. These are chrome vanadium, instead of the more resilient chrome molybdenum that the real impact sockets are. I guess these are just very thick and heavy hand sockets then. Dang it, for only $30 more, I could have just gotten the other GP set in SAE that goes to 1 1/2" from 3/8, but I'm not sure if those are Chromoly or CR-V either.
Hey GSMotorrad,
That set is indeed an impact set. Impacts can be a variety of steel alloys. It is more about the heat treating and hardness than the material. The ANSI spec is all about how it is hardened, and the way it is finished. It is a misconception that an impact is just a heavy duty hand socket, they are actually a few points lower on the Rockwell scale. Impact sockets need to be able to handle the on/off blows vs. the strains of a breaker bar or ratchet. This is why hand chrome sockets will blow up under the blows of a gun.
The biggest part of the material is longevity. And I can't remember hearing about one of our CR-V sockets letting go on someone.
But if you manage to, give me a shout.
Wow, sweet, Dave.R, thanks for that information. Are the CR-V sockets subject to rusting like the Chromoly ones? Should I keep these hefty CR-V IMPACT sockets slathered in some oil? Or do you warranty for rust, so I never have to worry about such trivial things?
This is my first purchase from TEKTON, but the pictures look really nice, so I'm pretty excited about this order, and if they work out, I'll look into more TEKTON stuff! Thanks!![]()
