No pic of my set but I finally sold my soul to the truck. Red was the color on sale and the only set on the truck so it's what I got. I broke two Mastercraft pry bars in the past week and said enough was enough.

Ordered a 1200k Nitrocat too. I'll have to get some torque sticks so I don't tear off any wheel studs.

Cool towel!

The 3/8" impacts seem to be on back order nation wide right now... :(

Yes my SO guy said maybe by mid June they'll arrive. That should give me enough time to sell my Mac 3/8 impact.

Hazet 21mm strut nut socket, ASsenmacher 8mm glow plug socket, a Lang hub holder and an otc cv boot clamp installer

That Hazet socket looks Good, is that to allow you to hold the nut while turning the shaft on the shock or vise versa? Would like to know more about it please, you can PM if you want to save others from the explanation. Much appreciated!

Save your money, torque sticks don't work correctly with clutch driven impacts. Unless you work in a tire shop you should just stick with running lugs on slowly and torqueing with a torque wrench.

I've noticed that it depends on what setting you have your gun on. With my Cornwell impact it has 3 power output levels; 1, 2 and 3. 1 being the lowest and 3 being the highest. When I use a torque stick I keep it at the lowest level since the other 2 over torque it. Me having ocd, I'll still use a torque wrench and use a torque wrench afterwards and also recommend this method.

The strut shaft has a Torx or hex fitting on the top to hold it in place while the nut is being turned. The open side let's you put the bit in place while turning the nut.

You use a hex key/bit/socket to hold the piston while you loosen/tighten the nut with the cut-out socket.

They've now been superceded with pass-through sockets:

People may make fun of them but having a colored socket set makes it really easy to identify the socket.

that's the idea as when I am under a car my wife passes me tools . so I can ask for a blue one or a red one . she spends ages going thro all the sockets looking for the one I need . her idea not mine but when I am told to buy tools I never refuse

Most interesting. I learned something today, thanks! I'd love to know the reason behind it if you feel like typing it out.

I'm not in a tire shop but I do plenty of tires since I'm the new guy/low man on the totem pole. Good advice, thanks!

The only problem with the pass through socket set is torquing the nut to spec. I guess you could use a crows foot on your torque wrench

Many of you may remember I moved. The new house has a lot of land so I bought a gator today. It's a used 2004 CX. Not meant to remove snow or anything, just to have fun with. The best part is it fit in the back of my truck.

In the 8 years i worked as a mech i never once torqued a strut nut. Most were air gunned on.

I bet 90% techs do the same thing, including myself. Some guys in the shop rarely use a torque wrench (not specifically on strut nuts but any fastener) , and I have worked on their comebacks. If it's easy enough to torque I will torque it to spec.

A torque stick is basically a calibrated piece of spring steel. Once you hit the calibrated torque the torque stick will stop spinning and will absorb the blows. Clutch driven impacts have more continuous torque output compared to the staggered hammer blows of a standard impact, As a result the torque stick may continue to spin when it should have stopped due to the spring steel not having time to relax before the next blow.

Been using this exact set on a very very frequent basis for more than fifteen years now. Awesome set.

Nothing major, but I did manage to trade a buddy for these orange Craftsman diagonals - slowly building up a collection of all the different ones they had :)

In the box was a complete set of 1/2 sockets w/ ratchet flying -V- series. A couple of 12 and 15 inch craftsman adjustable wrench's. The 15"has a sliding pin that locks it into position...:wtf: , craftsman ridged and trimo pipe wrenches, fomoco wrench, a strange saw , a Henry Disston wooden level ,A Stanley sweetheart awe and a bunch other stuff. 85.00 for all.

Decided to finally afford a good quality light, after buying some cheap one and breaking many bulbs I decided to go with a Quality Neon one. Its a NOVA I believe it folds in 2 has 2 switches to activate half the neons or both at the same time and comes with a suprisingly usefull pouch to store it in my service cart. Now I wont have to stress for battery life when I work under a truck or car.
