These are not the same as Armstrong.. Maybe you are mistaking them for Matco.. Lol

Last I knew, Matco was made by Wright. Mac is now part of Stanley Black & Decker. (Hence, Mac carries Expert (Stanley Taiwan) and DeWalt).

Armstrong (Danaher) was making some Craftsman until they went China.

I thought Matco was Armstrong?

You are correct in that Mac is part of SBD, as is Proto.

Armstrong makes a lot of stuff for Matco, including the ratchets. Matco has exclusives like the 24" 1/2 drive locking flexhead ratchet and the comfort grip ratchets.

It is a possibility that Wright makes some tools for Matco but I have never heard of them doing so.

Wright used to make sockets ratchets and wrenches years ago. Like 80s-90s

This guy arrived from Amazon today - 24 oz Armstrong dead blow ball pein hammer:

Got this from my dad today. I've never seen one until now. It's called a screw starter. This is a mac brand. You put the end into a flathead screw. There is a spring loaded part that you pop and another flat slot comes out and twists. It then holds tension against the inside slot of the screw so you can fish the tool and screw into the remote area to start threading it. Pretty cool. They also make them in phillips, torx, and a nutholder version.

Right around the time they expanded from making tool boxes for MAC and just started stamping their name on everything.:D

I just bought that same 24oz hammer on Amazon after messing with a Snap-On 24oz BPDB at Cummins training. It's my new favorite hammer hands down.

Still trying to figure out if their made by Trusty Cook or Estwing though. Originally saw Estwing, but keep seeing mention of Trusty Cook making them...

Trusty Cook is the OEM for Armstrong, SK and Estwing for sure and may still be for others. They were for Snap On, but they now have their own design. http://www.trustycook.com/

80 tooth head, they're plenty strong. It took 2 guys on the end of a 4 ft pipe to break the 17" one and it was the pivot bolt that broke not the head :willy_nil

Recent stroll through the local Sears. The prybars are currently on sale for $19.99. Already had a set but at that price, decided another package couldn't hurt. Autozone had the 1/2 in. torque wrench for $21. I've read both good and bad reviews on it but used it yesterday on my mower and it worked fine torquing to 25ft./lbs. It's far from the caliber of my Proto at work but should be fine for light jobs around the house and shop. My 2nd ball grip screwdriver there. Had the flat head so I picked up the philips to complete the pair. I've heard that they are rebadged Vessel but not certain. They are made in Japan and are pretty nice in my opinion. The bits are interchangeable so I really only needed one but I liked the original enough to shell out $6.99 on a second.

Didn't know about Trusty Cook making deadblows for Estwing. That just seems odd to me. With Estwing specializing in hammers themselves, you'd think that they would produce their own. Obviously a benefit there though or it wouldnt be so.

I was looking at that in the hot deals thread but not sure if I'd use it. Seems gimmicky? How do you like it? Any specific uses were a regular screwdriver wouldn't work?

It's larger than i first thought when seeing it online but I've still found it useful and practical. As I stated before, it's Japanese made and most likely a Vessel tool rebadge. That's a fairly respected brand of Japanese made tools, so it's not gimmicky in my opinion. It allows more torque to be applied due to the "ball" resting in your palm. I can't say that it's a must have tool although for the price it's a nice addition to a box or vehicle kit. The bits are replaceable and interchangeable so the handle will work with the bits that most of us already have in our collections.
