Got a smoking deal on a ingersoll rand 2015 hammerhead. $170 Canadian all in. I've wanted one of these for a couple of years and finally found one. No box deal, but I don't care.

I got a couple new to me -definitely not new:bounce:- wood planes. The larger one on the right is a Keen Kutter, and the one on the left has no discernible markings. Those markings should show up after a bath in evaporust. Thanks to Karl_B! He sent them for the cost of shipping.

I work about 10 minutes away, I will have to go on lunch one day!

They're open from 10a to 4p Wednesday through Saturday. I went there again this Saturday and it was pretty picked over to me. So definitely go on a Wednesday. They had a corded craftsman professional sawzall for $8 that needed the plug rewired and I passed on it. Still kicking myself on that one. Lots of good stuff, just have to dig a little.

Small Amazon order for me today. All this stuff is for my day job to work on industrial sewing machines, we have a mix of old Singers, Reece, Merrow's, and modern Juki machines so I needed both SAE & Metric.

DEWALT DWMT72160 23-Piece 1/4-in Drive SAE/Metric, Made in Taiwan.

TEKTON 1596 1/4-Inch Drive Extension Bar Set, Made in Taiwan. I got this set specifically for the knurling. Sewing machine internals are always covered in oil so these should help with the gripping.

Wright Tool 2442 6-Inch - 1/4-Inch Drive Spinner with Female End, Made in USA. I have one of these at home and use it often, very handy to have the female end in the end of the handle to crack stuff lose.

Last was a oil filter cap wrench for my car.

Everything went on the company credit card but I always get to keep the tools for my personal collection.

work pays for tools you get to keep? not bad

anyway... need a 12pt 1/2" for my wheel hub bolts (yay get to replace an axle shaft u-joint soon.. so excited) probably have one somewhere but i'm too lazy to dig through crusty old sockets in old toolboxes when i was going to be near menards anyway

and the mopar extension i found on ebay... male end is very loose but i didn't exactly buy it to use it

Review place?

How long have you had it? I've been looking to purchase one but have heard reliability issues.

Info for the IR Hammer Head 2015max, 2025max

I've had it for 3-4 years now, bought it almost new as I said one of my fav tools. I had issue right after I got it. The main problem is that the Backer plate for the gear box mechanism in the head backs out ( I think it's reverse thread and takes a special pin wrench tool to tighten)

it's really just a bad design as IR never used a set screw to keep it in place. They want you buy a whole replacement head for $200 bucks that will eventually have the exact same problem. Once I fixed that with some lock tite I've been problem free for 3 years or so

I have contemplated drilling and tapping in adding a setscrew to make it a permanent fix but...

Found these and couldn't help myself. I really didn't need another set of screwdrivers but I'll send my orange soft instincts down the road.

Picked this up from CL tonight for $50. My buddy is already dogging me that it's not gas and it's a POS...but I'm happy with it. I generally need to weld something once a year. I might use it to practice and get a little better.

How did you take your hammerhead apart? I always felt mine was way underpowered so it sits in my box. Maybe I should try to take it apart and see what is up

I wouldn't reccomend it unless you feel proficient in rebuilding air tools. I've rebuilt 50 or so air tools and this gave me by far the most trouble it was temper mental and took 2 tries to get it to run properly it basically needs to be completely disassembled to do any service

But To start you have to chuck it in a vice and remove the air intake tube and fitting At that time remove pin from the trigger remove the trigger cover unscrew the trigger from the housing and pull the housing off once you remove the housing there's four Allen screws that attach the body to the head you will remove those ( these are torqued to unknown spec and blue loc tited )if you'd like clean the motor you can then remove the bearings rotor and veins. I would suggests not removing the forward reverse valve from the motor housing as it needs to be realigned perfectly otherwise you will not be able to change direction of the tool

At this point you now have a sealed head unit ( which is said to be non serviceable) I would recommend rechucking it in the vice and coming up with some sort of solution on how you gonna back out this pin style backer plate because it's like 3 inches deep into the freaking head unit but I think I used to roll pin punches and some flat stock and got it loose it might be reverse threads Don't remember. at this Point I cleaned regreased the head made my pin wrench thing a little bit sturdier put blue Loctite on the backer plate and threaded it in. I put a ratchet on the Square Drive to check for how much resistance I felt in the gearbox be careful they must mesh smoothly no binding no excessive friction and then repeat the whole process in the reverse order and hope to  it actually works for you

Best of luck

Matt,
Pre-heat will be your friend with that machine.
JimDon

JimDon - thank you for the advice, I will take all that I can get since I'm just starting out with welding. I have seen a welding website referenced on here before, I'll have to check it out. I plan on getting some scrap metal from work so I can practice a bit.
