For years I've been skimping on better quality hand tools, in order to build up my collection as fast as possible on a budget. I upgraded to a 56" HF cabinet about a year ago, and now that it is decently full, I'll be weeding out some tools that just don't cut it anymore. I'll be upgrading to better quality American, German, or Japanese made replacements, thanks to lots of reading here on the GJ. My wife and my wallet thank you all... [emoji1]

I started by picking these up today:

I'm sure these are the first of many Wiha tools to come. I have a few various German-made Wiha bit drivers at work and absolutely love them.

I picked these up, too:

I never would have bought these in the store, but I grabbed two sets at a garage sale for a buck each (one not pictured, both still in the packaging). I can always toss them in my spare drawer at work if I hate them that badly, and I probably will once I decide how I feel about Hansen vs. Ernst trays and rails and start using those.

Also, I finally made room in my shop area for this cabinet, which I saved from the dumpster at work:

The lock mechanisms didn't work properly, so instead of asking me to fix them (which is actually part of my job) they just ordered a new one and tossed this one in the dumpster. I had to fish it out to pull the SFIC locks and realized there was hardly anything wrong with it! [emoji35]

I brought it home to use as a band saw stand, since it's super heavy (mostly metal/particle board) but due to limited space above, I decided to use it for all of my power tool accessories instead. The drawers have built in dividers, and are now partly full of drill bits, various saw blades, sanding discs, grinder discs, etc. The bottom has an open slot (seen above the door) and is going to be a bin for trash or dirty rags unless I find a better use for it. It matches my HF cabinet pretty well, and now my tool chargers no longer take up precious workbench space.

The best part: I already fixed the locking mechanisms so once I get some new cores it'll be secure, too. [emoji106]

Sure can. I'll probably get some time to mess with them on Thursday morning while everyone is sleeping in, if not by the weekend. I'll definitely post a few when I get a chance.

Nice broom Monte

I live a couple miles away from what was a large brush factory here in the UK, unfortunately they only make some plastic items here now, all the wooden brush heads are imported from china. The factory is still there but the owners are trying to get permission to build a housing estate on the site. Its a shame really but similar has happened to almost all the manufacturing industry where I am.

By chance, I wound up near a HF today because of work. I live / typically work an hour away from 3-4 stores, so I don't have the luxury to just stop by whenever I want. Since I was there already, I decided to make the trip worth it:

I just couldn't bring myself to pass these up for the price!

It's Wiha Wednesday!

These will probably see limited use at home as I don't often need security bits (aside from some tamper resistant Torx screws on my Volkswagen) but I have the same set at work and love it. It does have some standard bits along with a 1/4" adapter for use with a ratchet, and it's extremely portable, so I may wind up using it more than I think. The case is pretty nice, too! [emoji106]

Since all 39 parts were made in Germany, this set likely contains the best quality 1/4" hex bit holder that I own so far. Most of these I encounter are afterthoughts and complete junk. [emoji35]

yeah 37.- is not cheap, but i think you get what you pay for. At least here in Germany i couldn´t find a similar product. The cheaper products have thinner/weaker handles and less bristles for example.

My 3/8 was the same. I got in contact with them. Insisted on sending me a new one. Hasn't arrived yet. They're sending a new one with a packaging slip to mail the old one back.

What are those tri wing bits for?
They're the only ones in this set that I've never used, actually. I've seen them on things like toys for small children, to keep them from picking up a screwdriver and taking things apart. I remember doing that a few times as a kid, ha ha.

EDIT: I just remembered where I'd seen these a lot over the years: Nintendo systems. I've seen these on several different generations of controllers and portables. The best shot I could get is of the back of one of my GameCube controllers:

I find those 1/4" breaker guys great for removing small bolts holding facias or Headlights. Like Popparoach said, as a speed/spinner wrench.
