What do you think of this box so far?

Nice box for the price. I like the big open top. Charge my radio, speaker, phone, tools from there. One thing I don't like about it is that the drawers have to be pushed all the way in for it to lock. It's hard to tell visually if one is 1/16 of an inch open and won't lock. The Milwaukee box that was set up next to this one, the drawers **** themselves in when you close them. I can live with it.

Realized I was sorely lacking in the screwdriver department. Only had 3. I've lost so many tools lately. Hopefully that will stop now that I have a place to put them. Stacking all my tools in a job box everyday was getting old. Wanted to try out a decent set of muffs. See if I can grind some metal tomorrow and find out.

Thanks for the info. I just bought a 66" Husky lower box online from HD. It should be in next week. I got it when HD ran a one day sale. Normally $849 and I got it for $499. Hope it is worth it.

Delivery from Zoro today, the 125 long cobras are tiny! Should work great in the motorcycle tool kit.

Here's my my Anglepoise 1431 magnifying task lamp (right), which arrived in today's post. It dates from around the 60s and has just replaced my classic Anglepoise 1227 (left) on my workbench:

23443696986_eee611c843_z.jpg

The whole lamp is pretty minty; crucially the magnifying lens is unmarked. There are two mounting positions for the spring hangers on both sets of legs, but after 50-odd years of use, the lamp is holding perfect position in the first, looser, position. Good to know the adjustment is there if someone needs it in another 100 years or so

They sure don't design/manufacture them like they used to! Those are some great looking lamps.

Thanks bodyguy. Yes, I have to say that assembling that 1431 Anglepoise today, and then watching how it effortlessly holds any position, well, it's sort of humbling just how physical and substantial and downright triumphant that thing is, compared to, say the flimsier, wobblier and more poorly cantilevered type 1228 Desk Lamp that I have in my study.

WRD Spider for removing bonded in glass. Already took out a windshield and back window without breaking it or destroying the moldings.

The first time I saw one of those in action my jaw dropped. Truly ingenious. We just started a restoration on a XK150 Alloy body and it was time for the glass to be removed without ANY damage to the perfect moldings and frame. This guy came down and whipped one of those out, bam, 20 minutes and no damge. Needless to say, hes been our permanent glass guy for all our builds.

Very nice lamp as is and if I had that same lamp I would not change a thing:thumbup:. But it would be so cool if you can retrofit LED for the light.

It's been quite a while since I had anything to add to this thread. I scored these a few days ago from an antique tools page on FaceBook. Six of the seven are Cincinnati Tool (20s - 30s??).

The largest one opens eight inches! I'll probably use them occasionally ... but if somebody sees something they just can't live without feel free to shoot me an offer. They all work smoothly, and the only one with any visible damage at all is shown in the last pic; it still threads completely but looks like some minor vise grip damage on the outer end.

Five years ago they probably never would have even caught my eye. Obviously GJ is a great influence on me. :D

Ha ha! That's the exact (and only) thing on the list. Have measured up already: it takes 28mm SBC bulbs. There's no way I'm swapping the fittings, but if I can find a decent LED in SBC, it'll be going in. Interestingly, this lamp runs far cooler than the 1229, I'd thought it might be hotter given the plastic handles, so the gains of switching to LED mightn't be huge...

My primary job is a facilities maintenance tech for a retail chain, which I have been doing for almost a year now, after working for this retailer for almost a decade in other departments. Today I was cleaning up some junk in my HVAC spare parts cabinet in one of my mechanical rooms when I came across these:

Proto Professional metric wrenches, from 8-15 mm. The 9mm from the set is MIA, despite my futile attempts to locate it. I already have a complete set of decent wrenches in my office workshop, and another set on my tool cart, so I don't really have a need for these at work. In the past, I've given away surplus tools to other coworkers, or my counterparts at other stores, but these came home with me! [emoji41]

EDIT: I just now realized (based on the date of some paperwork I had found with these) that this set of wrenches was purchased and used by an old friend that had been in my current position back when I was just a stock person for my company. He was almost like a third grandfather to me, and I was his reliable helper whenever he needed an extra set of hands. He taught me a lot of lessons about this job long before I realized I'd be filling his old shoes almost a decade later.

Sadly, he died of terminal lung cancer several years ago, shortly after his retirement. We kept in touch, but he had never said a word to anyone at work about being sick. I didn't know until he was bed ridden at the hospital and couldn't hide it anymore.[emoji20]

Obviously, these now have some sentimental value to me. I use many of his old tools every day, a few with his name still written / engraved on them. I sure wish he was still around to see how well I'm taking care of this old place and maybe even give me a hand once in a while.

Also, if this forum was around when he was, I guarantee you he was a member here. I wish I knew what his username had been if that were the case.

Does that side cabinet mount up good? I've been considering getting one for mine. I'd also like the side locker.
Best mounting I have ever seen for one, extra bolt on brackets for top and bottom, I am very impressed. Side locker is next for me then I can lock up my bag, harness, coat, welding helmet, etc. I used to think HF had the best value in boxes, well these far surpass that. Just the latching system alone is head and shoulders above anything else in the price range.

Been needing to replace my pocket screwdriver I lost a while back, came across this SK reverse - able that looked like it would do just right.

i've been using one of those for a while... i like it... only complaint is the logo is wearing off from the handle

anyway... today's pick ups... coupler on my compressor has leaked from day one (what i get for buying the cheapest coupler HF had) and i've been eyeballing the rotary tool every time i go to HF... today i stopped

Estwing 88oz Deadblow Sledgehammer made by Trusty Cook
Ernst Socket Boss
Knipex Precision "Mechanics Gripping" pliers?

The deadblow sledgehammer feels awesome and is nice and heavy. Makes me wonder what the 192oz is like! Maybe I'll stumble backwards into a deal on one some day.

I don't know what makes the Knipex for a Mechanic but they seem like nice little pliers. The jaws have no teeth so they won't scratch anything up. I might end up using them more for electronics work though I'd expect.

Socket Boss seems cool but I'm a little worried about how much extra space it will take up in my socket drawer. There's a lot of extra room on the sides.

Haven't posted an image in a while, hope this works.

Blue point long reach hose pliers. 3 sizes. Would've really only needed one medium size, but that's how they come I guess.

Blue point extractor set. Looks really slick. Includes drill bits, drill bit guides, splined extractor and nuts to slide on splines and turn screw/bolt out. Hopefully it works well.

Wrench rails and organizer.

Sorry about your friend.

I have one of those PROTO's in 7/16, came to me in a box of random (mostly cheap) second hand tools.

It's my go-to when I need a 7/16, I love the finish on these.

Keeping the Proto theme going at work. UPS just dropped some more presents from Grainger:

Proto SAE and metric t-handle hex keys, and the 4 pc set of those nice Proto prybars that were discussed earlier in this thread.

In light of incoming winter weather, I noticed my company added these to the approved Grainger catalog:

I'm glad I ordered it on Monday, because I just waited through three straight days of rain to go up on my roof and do my monthly maintenance on 20 HVAC units. Now it's colder and very windy, so I got this just in time!

I normally wear a medium, but I ordered a small so I could wear it easily under my heavy / waterproof coat. Hopefully it's not too tight. [emoji41]

Youre going to like that impact I have one and its awesome.
I second that! [emoji106]

I bought the DCF899B as soon as I could order it back in the spring. I tried getting the DCF899HB (hog ring anvil), but I kept getting back order emails. I settled for the pin detent, which is just fine for my occasional automotive use at home. I have yet to see these in stores at all and didn't realize HD carried them yet. Loads of torque and plenty of run time with my 4.0 Ah XR packs!
