Waiting at Sears getting my battery replaced and picked up this Gearwrench ratchet set.

Stopped Sears this morning to pay for the clothes the wife ordered for the grandkids. They still had some of their Professional screwdrivers and such so I grabbed some Torx drives and an awl. I also picked up a new drill bit after breaking one yesterday trying to drill out a roll pin.

All brand new they had boxes and boxes of stuff. Spend 40 bucks and pretty happy also got some free signs!

Grabbed a Milwaukee angle grinder from the clearance area at Home Depot. It was the display model from a previous model (I like it better than the new model ($45)

The eye roll I got when I told her I'm finally going to upgrade my tool box was much bigger than I gave her when asked if I was going to sell my old wrenches.



I'll have to take a look at my Craftsman ones (haven't used them in so long), if I they're identical to ones I have, I might have my own giveaway.

Impulse buy at HF, decided to see what all the fuss is about. Have not used it yet, but just handling it I'm impressed for the money. Still need to find a SK tuff1 3/8" flex for cheap, but this should do for a while.

A new low for HF, made in India!

Can't be any worse (or better) than Chinese.

If it makes you feel any better both chemical plants I worked at started using 316 flanges and piping from India, even for the scary stuff like ethylene oxide.

I think even at the pharmaceutical plant I'm at now I've seen some Indian made parts. Don't worry, we still pay thousands for small simple pieces of stainless parts from Bosch in Germany.

Back on topic, I almost bought one of those 1/4" composite ratchets also but it seemed much longer than I wanted in a 1/4" and not worth it since my 20% coupon was already used for the wrenches.

I got a few different thread restorer type items on Ebay recently:





The top two NES items were $97 shipped. The Jawco 1853 set was $55 shipped. I ordered the missing taps/dies from Jawco for around $10 so I am very happy to have gotten the bigger 53 piece complete set for $65.

That little sae/metric combo stubby set is a deal!! You can't beat that price on a stubby set like that. They look great and are cheap as hell. For something that you don't use much and low torque requirements, you can't beat them

I think it looks really good sitting in my toolbox. Haha. I bought it for bleeding brakes but the hose I have is too thick so I haven't been able to use it yet. First impression of is it good though. Looks like it will work great once I get the hose figured out.

Couple small things:

A couple of recent acquisitions. First, the new Tekton metric (ignore the red wrench rack) standard length ratcheting flex head box end wrench set. Item #WRN75164. sizes run 8-19mm, 72 tooth ratcheting 6 point boxed ends. Nice chrome, nice working length, sizes stamped on both sides of the wrench. I'll take them to work and see what's what.

Also pictured a pair of Merry Tools connector pliers from Frank's tools. I think they'll be handy when my fat fingers don't want to work

A new Dewalt 18v dcd790p2 cordless drill to replace the old Panasonic, which was year 2003 model.

Dewalt was on sale in the local hardware store, only 290 euros. And made in Czech Rebublic


So, it is when you get to a bigger hardware store, so it's like a little kid in a candy store

Ready to give a review on the TEKTON's?

It's only been a couple of weeks No issues so far. I like the length. The ratcheting action is crisp & smooth. I haven't had any clearance issues with them. No play in the joints yet. I did notice that the beam of the wrench is slightly tapered. it's slightly wider on the larger size side of the wrench. For the money, I think Tekton has a winner-winner chicken dinner here
and I think I own just about everybody's brand of ratcheting wrench.

I am still waiting for someone to make my idea of the perfect ratcheting wrench though. Tekton is close. (Are you listening Dave?) all Tekton needs to do is take their standard length ratcheting flex head wrench set and remake it placing a fixed 12 point boxed end on one end and their ratcheting six point flex head boxed end on the other end. Make a set running 8-19mm and you'll dominate the ratcheting wrench segment.
I rarely use an open end wrench aside from suspension work.

Nice stuff I bought their large 3pc external set (nes 1,2,3 ) about 2 years ago. Great tools pricey but they're a serious time saver. The CM (Lang) rethreader kit is probably my most used tool...

Thanks for the heads up on the Jawco stuff, just ordered a bunch of rethreads to fill in some missing spots! Never knew they were out of Reading PA, decent prices and shipping too!

Thanks for the review, Fed. I really like the looks of those TEKTON's. I'll probably grab some. I'm right there with you on the ideal ratcheting wrench. To me, it would be far more useful than a ratcheting combination wrench. I've got open ended wrenches coming out my ears and seldom need them. I've had my fingers crossed that SK would put one out with their six point and x-frame. But I bet a TEKTON version would sweep the market as well.

Got back out in the garage and found some hose. It worked great. I love that it holds the hose so it never popped off the bleeder. Now I just need to buy a vacuum bleeder so I don't have to do it the old fashion way.

I was actually shocked at how cheap the replacement parts are at Jawco. The only bad thing about going to their site is that I found about $200 worth of new tools that I want to buy now!
