New vim stubby hex sockets... Here's a comparison to a matco stubby I was using... (Sorry for the shadows)

Pro's:
awesome quality,
extremely short,
Hex plus
branded as blue point,
$23,
great customer support

Con's:
I had to contact customer support to send two sockets as the set had two duplicates instead.
They are labelled with part numbers but not hex size
No warranty due to being discontinued.
I wish they had other stubbies on clearance!
They aren't dual drive like some otc's that I have for triple square, but I can live with it.IMG_20180604_184546072.jpgIMG_20180604_184805489.jpg

Picked up few things recently. First is a 200 piece Powerbuilt tool set. It will see light duty use around the apartment. Also got some Elora triple square sockets alont with a few long metric hex sockets. Amazon has some Elora struff fairly cheap, so more is on the way. Last are a pair of Orbis VDE angled nose pliers IMG_20180605_142650.jpgIMG_20180605_142841.jpg

Those heavy duty black rubber hoses are unkillable.

Do they kink easily? Seems all the garden store variety hoses are absolute **** and kink with the slightest pull. I'm still holding on to some old green ones that are near as old as me because they just wont kink.

There are TWO different types of Craftsman black hoses: the octagon ones and round ones. The octagon ones are USA made, are better, and are hard to kink, the round ones are CHINA and are **** and kink very easily. Fittings on these two hoses are also different. Maybe you have the round Chinese made ones. The octagon ones I have are almost 10 years old and still look brand new, and I have never had a problem with them "kinking."

Did Sears discontinue the USA made octagon hoses? Because I went to warranty an octagon hose last week and they gave me a round Chinese hose.

For those who drill holes in wood ...................... just got these Fisch brad points. They are really nice! Clean , fast cutting, sharp. Just drilled some test holes to try them in pine and maple. Even the smallest (1/16") clears the dust / chips out instead of clogging the flutes. Very good bits.

29 piece 1/16" through 1/2" by 64ths. The four smallest are not brad point, but that is common on the small sizes.

Perfect, I'll be on the hunt for an Octagon one.

It's new toy day. 3/8" to 7/8" tubing and both 3/4" and 1" square dies. All rated up too 16ga. Zoro's 25 off made it all that more palatable.

That Craftsman part number is 71 69602.

If you have that hose and take it into Sears for a warranty replacement, chances are they will hand you a Chinese made 71 62602 as a replacement. Don't let them do that. Insist on the 71 69602 or get your money for it. The current price for the 71 69602 is $26.99. My local Sears has them on backorder.

New shipment arrived. My first Bahco tools, some pliers, cutters, and bits I found on sale. I was pretty excited to add me first Swedish made steel to the bunch, didn't realize none of these are actually made in Sweden. Probably should have done my research first.

The VDE pliers and cutters are made in Spain, which is still cool, though oddly the cutters don't actually say that anywhere on the tool itself, only on the card. Less excitingly, the bits are made in Taiwan and the cable shears are made in China. I'd consider returning the shears, but they're actually pretty massive for what they are.

And the bigger delivery for the day, the new set of Proto (rebranded Grip-on) locking pliers, along with the Knipex tubular welding grip pliers. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally get a full set of Grip-on, which I've had my eyes on for a few years.IMG_20180605_233405256.jpgIMG_20180606_240015556.jpg

IIRC the Bahco cutters are made in Spain, I used to sell them on my Snap-On(UK) truck when I did that back in the early 2000's. They kicked the **** of the Snap-On cutters, so many of us Snappy guys in UK used to stock those over the S.O. ones as the S.O. ones were always too soft, the cutting edges deformed/dulled easily.
Bahco diag cutters are the best I have used to date, but I just got myself a set of Orbis, so time will tell.

S.O. Owns a couple of Spanish companies, one Palmera tools makes a lot for S.O. under the Snap On Eurotools line, it wouldn't surprise me if they were the OEM for the Bahco's.

Oh yeah, I'm glad to know that the tools made in Spain have good reputation in GJ.

Yeah the VDE cutters on the end are made in Spain. The cable cutters in the middle are made in China, which was surprising.

The VDE cutters are rated for piano wire, so pretty hard. The finish though, which looks like epoxy coating, is not as nice as the finish on the VDE pliers.

I don't have a ton of experience with tools from Spain other than Grip-on, which I like, and which have a good reputation. In general, I figure tools that haven't been outsourced to the cheapest manufacturing location in the world probably have similarly aligned goals in terms of quality.

couple things i forgot to add to the larger SK order... plus i decided to go ahead and get the DT80 upgrade... now to decide if i want it in the shiny new ratchet from the set or put it in one of my older ones (or maybe my roto)

2coqyif.jpg

also just making sure... the 21mm deep is supposed to be broached like the other SK deeps right? hex only going part of the way down?

edit: checked specs in print catalog... the 3/8" deeps are full broach from 20mm up

I have a 21mm deep SK socket from two years ago, and it has the typical SK shallow broach.

Looks like you have an oops. Consider yourself lucky.

If I had to guess that's a lug socket or something specific.

now is that 3/8 or 1/2"... because i just double checked my print sk catalog and the 3/8" deeps are shallow broach up to 19mm and 20+mm are full broach

You machinist types are really going to hate me. My buddy called me and said his neighbor had a mill he wanted to sell, so I went to take a look. It's a Millport, Bridgeport clone. Looked decent although it wasn't running. It included a lot of tooling. So I asked him how much he wanted? His reply, "I haven't used it in years and I just want it to go to somebody who'll appreciate and use it. How about $400?"

I said OK and gave him the $$$. Then he says, "I've got this old magnetic surface grinder, too. You can have it if you want." I said OK!

He threw in the Phase-O-Matic, too!

Happy to report that both the mill and grinder are in my shop.

I finally read that Mr. Denny Toptul won't be selling anymore, so I pulled the trigger on some items since everything will be harder to get soon. Still amazed at the quality for the price.
