Went to a tool/equipment auction today for a custom furniture company (D.R. Dimes) that went out of business. Was hoping to buy a table saw, drill press, band saw and lathe... but ended up walking away with a "Mac tool chest with contents". Couldn't afford the other power equipment.

Paid $400. I think I made out ok. Still have the entire top box to go through and sort through a few more drawers on the bottom box.

It came with two almost complete Blue point tap and die sets TD2425 and TDM117A as well.

furniture guys use Snap On too eh? neat, who'd a thunk it

My dealer knows how to get me then! He did give me a $300 discount on the socket set when I ordered them - I guess I lucked out on the timing!

I am still waiting on my 1/2" drive mid depth socket set. They only make them in SAE, but it is a huge set and I use them a lot, deeps are usually too deep and shallows are too shallow, so I hoe these will be perfect. Next week I am buying that new meter, can't wait to have it integrate with my phone!

SAE equivalent of this 10-36mm set? Completely agree with you, mid lengths are always my go to's now on my 3/8" impact socket set. Looks like I'm buying another $600 socket set when they make the metric version...lol

Off topic but what are you doing with duplicates, replacments or upgrades from other brands? I saw awhile back you said youd be selling some stuff off and in starting at a new shop the first of the year, curious if you've sold anything off or going to hoard it like the rest of us!

Damn, I like that impact. I can't wait to show the MAC guy. He insists those are a MAC exclusive and no one can touch them, despite his crazy price!

The MACs were on promo for $399. Pretty typical for a truck impact and looking around the USAG is pretty much the exact same price. I paid around $300 for my 2235QTIMAX when it first came out too, for comparison.

FWIW hes kind of right until it comes out for Proto. USAG and Facom don't really have any dealers state side except for the specialized ones.

Yeah, but it's not all about the dealers. You can buy tons of stuff on the internet. Hell, half my matco and snapon stuff was purchased used on ebay at a steep discount.

In my never ending search to find any proto big dawg ratchets I picked up a Nos black 1/2. I also bought those $40 dent fix locking pliers.

I’ve had this on my amazon wish list for a long time. They had a killer deal on them for Black Friday at Home Depot, but I also learned about the new Ingersoll one during the Black Friday sale so I couldn’t pull the trigger...

$40 each or for the set??? I bought the FACOM branded ones and I like them a lot, Proto didn't have them out yet. Where did you get them?

I finally broke down on Black Friday and bought a new set of PB Swiss metric hex wrenches. I have been using the rainbow sets for close to 20 years now and have never had a problem (other than lost paint, when I use cheaters). One set in my work kit and one set in the home kit- both are used daily, and hard- you can see my work kit (gray) gets hammered on quite a bit.

Anyway, been really, really curious about the knurled set when it came out. Saw it at a trade show last year and was really impressed. The one thing that surprised me when it arrived was the size. A normal 10mm wrench is 10mm wide. The knurled set, since the body is round, is 12mm diameter. And the knurled section is 12.5mm. All of them together make a pretty wide set.

I will let you know in a few decades if they hold up as well as the rainbow sets.

Matt

Just picked up my new 44" box from Harbor Freight. Now I get to spend this evening organizing everything.

Are the Dent Fix also made in France or what's their COO? How do they compare to the Facom that you already have? Thanks
I'll know in a few days, ordered three sets lol. I already own Facom and Proto versions, and paid much more than what these cost so I hope they are not Chinese garbage

They are made in Taiwan as far as I know (was previously discussed in the eBay deals thread where I originally posted these). as far as I can tell, they were originally made by a tool company called Anchor. This model was branded Anchor Bite pliers, and they were made in the US. However, their website doesn't seem to exist anymore, so I'm guessing the tool company went out of business, and since then it seems like dent fix has gotten the rights to make them and moved production over to Taiwan (I'm guessing in this part). These pliers and the boxes they come in have no COO listed anywhere.

I don't have any Facom locking pliers to compare them to, but I do have similar Beta and SAM pliers. The Beta and SAM pliers seem almost identical, so I'm wondering if they were rebranded from the original Anchor pliers or something. The Beta pliers have a polished chrome finish, but the mechanicals and operation of the Dent Fix pliers seem just as good as the Betas.

Overall, I was surprised how nice the Dent Fix pliers are for the price.

Matt

Those knurled PB keys are ****! Where did you buy them?

Well there is no coo listed anywhere on box or tools when this happens I can only assume China.

As for comparing to the facom sometimes I do not have a correct tool for the job sometimes I get a little rough with the facom the teeth on the facom are holding up but chrome did get chipped from around the teeth. These being a oxide finish jaws (at lest from what I can tell) won't have that issue. I put a couple drops of super lube oil on the screw and the movement is smooth. And they hold tight. For the price you cannot go wrong. My facom 500 was about 30$ just for one.
