Thanks! Also, what do you think about the Carlyle Hex sockets? I have wera hex keys that I love, but their hex bit sockets are too over priced for me personally. I think cause of holding function nonesense they have with the ball detent. I don’t know. I saw like $100 for a non complete set of metric bit sockets.

That massive hex bit set from Carlyle got my eyes. It’s more money than I wanted to spend but it really has a lot going on in it.

I was looking at the 42 piece master set, but all I need is the long ones so I opted for just the long SAE and metric set. They seem to be pretty decent for the price. I’ll be getting the long hex with ball end as well.
For what I need to work on my weapons Carlyle is perfect. I’ll keep the SK and Mac in the garage for the cars, but I did move a few SK ratchets to my arms room box....lol... I also won’t rule out some Carlyle stuff for the garage either.....

Fell into a new rabbit hole yesterday.....

Already had a track saw - Dewalt - looks like that one is going to my son and I'm starting down a new path.

These showed up today! The chrome looks flawless. Added to my wrench collection. Next on the list is probably replacing the gearwrench ratcheting wrenches.

I have a long time lurker and haven't posted a ton, but I have been on a bit of a tool binge lately and figured now was as good of time as any to post up.

First up is a DeWalt 12v screwdriver. I had about 100 hinges to swap out and used it as an excuse to buy something new. I was pretty dead set on going Milwaukee M12 but after feeling the ergonomics and weight of the DeWalt I was sold... I still want the M12 ratchet and rotary tool though. After using the DeWalt a bunch, I went and bought the 12v drill (and some new bits) as well. These have been great for small tasks around the house.

I also picked up a bunch of small items on Amazon recently. My favorite type of tape measure ( I already have the 12ft and 25ft), Felo T handle bit driver, Wiha hex bits, Bondhus ball end hex bits, Bondhus security torx set to replace a cheap Chinese set, and a Tekton rubber mallet.

I had been watching this Orbis 3 piece set for a bit on Amazon and when it dropped to $40 I had to have it. Right after I bought the set, it jumped back to $99. I saw this Williams racheting wrench as a $2 add on item and I've been curious about them, so what the hell, grabbed one of those.

Over the holidays, my Dad bought me the DeWalt 20v 6.5 circular saw along with the 3amp/hr battery. That gave me a great reason to get the 20v fan that I've had my eye on for the garage. I am a fan...no pun intended.

Last but not least is a Wera bit screwdriver and a set of Snap On E Torx sockets that Ill be using for a brake job this weekend.

This arrived from Germany much faster than expected. My new 41.75" Bahco 147, aka Snap On PWZ5, pipe wrench. Made in Argentina.

I have no idea what I'll use it for, but I like being prepared! I can imagine wedging this onto something to prevent it from turning while I work, or something like that. It's pretty massive, weighs about 18 pounds (8kg).

Expensive morning...I needed new work boots. Went to Hartville Hardware, place was SLAMMED. Never seen it that busy. Turns out they were having a 25% off tool sale, dammit of course I got caught in that tractor beam.

Been wanting to try a pair of Thorogoods so I picked these up. Moc toe, safety toe 8" made in USA. Not a big fan of the light colored soles but they seem very comfortable so far.

Of course had to get some boot oil too.

Went to check out tool section, aisles were packed. They have a Wright Tool display, and a Wright rep was there. Chatted with him for a while, checked out price sheets and looked online to compare prices.

Their prices are a tad high normally, but the sale brought the price of this 3425 long handle 3/8 contour grip ratchet (11") to $47, better than most prices online. And I got a free Wright Grip 2.0 can coozie! Been wanting to try a contour grip.

Total $268, but I get $150 of that back as a PPE reimbursement from work.

That's nice that your work helps subsidize safe attire.

Last shop I worked at, a Redwing truck came to the shop, we were fitted and the shop covered 100%. So I still had to pay $40 for these which in reality isn't that bad.

Redwing truck? Never heard of that and I've been wearing redwings for 12 years

My replacement ratchet arrived today. I set the original ratchet aside to be repaired, after procrastinating for a few years, I have no idea what I did with it. My wife purchased this set for me back in the early 90’s, so it’s one of the few tools I own that has sentimental value. I’m sure the replacement ratchet on eBay cost me more than the entire set did back then. I like to pull it out when fixing something small for my wife, while saying, “tools are a great long term investment”. Irwin 1840391 34-Piece Impact Automotive Set

I bought these to work on my German cars.

I did not have a chance to use them yet but, my initial impression is the locking adapter is not great. The bits glide in well but, you need to pull the locking mechanism back a couple times before the bit comes back out.

Also, not sure why the nut driver are SAE sizes. I believe metric sizes would have been more appropriate for this kit.

The ends of the bits look nice.

I find that to be one of the greatest mysteries with all of those automotive bit sets on the market today. :wtf: they should have 8 & 10 mm at least. 5.5, 7, 8, & 10 mm for the win. 1/4 and 5/16 were great for cars about 30 years ago

I love my Thorogoods. I take some dark brown leather dye and do the soles on mine.

I like these so far. Put 2 coats oil on and they turned a nice chestnut brown.

I will shamelessly plug hartville hardware again...i believe it is the largest privately owned hardware super center in the USA. Under one roof...a few brands of usa and non usa work footwear...every single thing that milwaukee, dewalt, and others makes...wright tools, klein, channellock, bondhus, mayhew, starrett, even oddballs like Picard (Germany) hammers. Tons others I'm missing. I think they offer everything Stabila makes....then there's clothing, mostly carhart type stuff...typical big box store type hardware...large metal fastener inventory...then there's the housewares (half the store) clothing oh and a drive up full service lumber and material yard. If you go for the first time set aside the better part of a day.

I like those Komelon tape measures too. Two years ago I happened across a stupidly great Amazon deal on them; a box of six 12-ft, private-branded for ULine, for $5. Not $5 per tape; $5 for all six of them. Some of them went missing at my wife's work, but I still have a few around the house. The self-lock is a better design than Stanley's.

Not exactly new arrivals, because I bought them months ago, but I just got around to putting them into service today:

Thanks for the storage rack idea. Simple yet very effective.

Thanks. I just needed something to organize them quick. We'll see how useful it actually turns out to be. I should spread them out more, to make it easier to grab one out of the middle.

Was really excited for these, and I still am, but wasn't expecting them to be made in China. Would have gotten the Tekton ones for 7 dollars more if that was the case. That said, they look to be really really nice, chrome is super shiny and no blemishes. For 23 dollars and as much as I use stubby wrenches, they'll be perfect.

I was actually researching that this morning. I could not find the COO on them. More so curiosity but was going back and forth between tekton and sunex . Sunex sae set is more inclusive than the tekton. The tekton metric is more inclusive than the sunex. . Too many options yet again.

I went back and fourth between the two also, had I known these where made in China I'd have given my money to Tekton. Might snap some closeups cause I'm bored, but they look great. My reasoning for getting this set was because my wrenches in 8 and 9 are very small anyways (Wright WrightGrip 2.0) so I kinda figured I could do without. I use them rarely and wanted to save a few dollars, plus I hate the red wrench rack and was planning on buying an ernst one anyways. I think if you need the other sizes the Tekton is probably the better answer for sure, plus they come from Taiwan it sounds like. For SAE, maybe the sunex set is the answer. Lots of good options!

Don't worry, I bought a Tekton metric flare nut wrench set a 5 years ago and it was made in china.

I do not get too hung up on COO but do prefer Taiwan over China in terms of quality “most” of the time. That being said sunex has never done me wrong and I feel they are the more complete set. I cannot buy different brands for metric and sae .

Some close ups would be great. I may even buy both just to set my mind at ease. I have done that many of times before . I always over think things because you cannot see them in person firsthand.

A few things I’ve acquired over the last while:

Got this cart at Harbor Freight for my grandpa. He’s been wanting a simple little cart to roll around his shop so I got him one. I screwed the free 18” magnet I got with it to the side of it.

05f534fc6a9c620bb997317e6b56786f.jpg

Got most of this stuff in the same Harbor Freight trip. Ball joint press and the set with all the cups. I gotta do the ball joints on my 07 Dodge one ton before long so I needed it. A 4 pound dead blow, 7 mil and 9 mil gloves. You can also see the scraper and the ball hex socket sets I got from NAPA that are in the real deals this quarter. I also ordered the long 1/2” ratchet and the big rechargeable light while I was there. No idea when they will be here though.

In the same trip, I also picked up a 3 ton low pro floor jack and the 1000 pound lift table cart. Couldn’t wait to get the cart home and try it out, and it does exactly what i needed it to do - raise up my 500 Foreman to a comfortable working height.

Also, Mi Madré got me this rolling seat from Harbor Freight for Christmas. I already had the round one so I didn’t need this one, but it will be put to good use any way:
