I've actually had several new tools recently, but this one is (hopefully) going to solve last night's 90 minutes of can't-quite-get-to-it under my old BMW.

I have that set. They're well worth it.

They worked perfectly - I spent a lot of pain and cuss words on getting that damn hose on there, but I could only get three fingers on it. Super frustrating.

Then having the right tool made it a couple minutes work. I love tools.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand since I've acquired a fair number of tools in the last few years, I went back to HF to get my tool-cart a brother...

It seems like a damn nice cart, and the only assembly is the wheels and the handle (which makes me very happy).

This replaces a Seville cart from Sam's club that is decent but has an inefficient giant bottom drawer and a wood top that I don't need any more since I built my workbench. Debating on putting it on Craigslist, keeping it for the family to put "house" tools in (so they'll stay the heck out of mine...) or giving it to a buddy who's getting ready to do me a big favor. Leaning towards the buddy...

Yes those come in handy, what were you trying to remove on the BMW, I take it a 635?

Very nice and an M635 one at that, very clean! Is that a club badge on the front grille? You're in good company, the closest I have is an e30 M3 :)

Thanks! It's a fun car - first one I ever really "noticed ;)

I'm a big fan of E30's, and especially the M3!

One of the badges is from SouthEast SharkFest and the other is from the BMW CCA

Proto inch midget wrenches in nicely-made tie-closure tool roll that's also being used to store Facom metric midget wrenches that didn't come in a roll.

Protos look dowdy next to the sleek and stylish Facoms, but one could argue Proto heads are more compact. I like visual differentiation between AF and metric.

Is this actually made like a real ratchet or is it one of those resin composite toys? What are they asking for it?

It is a real functioning ratchet, pretty heavy too!! Came as a promo item when I bought 3 hard handle ratchets...

SSX19P262 is the part number on the box...

This was the success-shot...

Wish the pictures would show up for me! I have an e34, that my wife bought for me almost 8 years ago out of her tuition money she had saved up for nursing school. Luckily the cause was I needed something more reliable than my 76 Datsun 620 so I could continue to make it to work to pay back that tuition money. She has been an RN for nearly 7 years now. :) end story haha.

I bought that same Maddox kit a few weeks ago - very stout, I used them on a set of 600lb Toyota FJ Cruiser springs with absolutely no issue.

I got this on market place for $150, saw, 1 large battery, 1 small one, case, and charger. Lightly used, I can't believe it was on there for over a week.

He says he got two batteries and a charger. That’s a better deal than the Homedepot one, and the one he got doesn’t look that used.

Don't forget the tax too. Id say it was a good deal! Looks brand new. Whats your intention with it? Let us know how it works, I've been eying one for a while.

I know they have pins, etc., but I do not trust that style of spring compressor at all.

I bought this years ago, and it's been awesome. I still greatly respect the amount of force in those damn springs, but I don't fear them as much...

They've dropped to $80 on eBay, so not crazy money, especially for the additional predictability/safety IMHO

Friends shop has a huge dent in their overhead doors... spray painted red... tagged "spring 1998". He explained that one as a spring hit the ceiling with the door open in 1998...

After seeing the thread on digital calipers I couldn’t help myself! Precision matters, even during a pandemic.

e34s are great machines, which one do you have as they started with the 6 and have a couple of V8s the Sixes are the preferred but I am sure you know that also. I am a CCA Member as well have been with the BMW club for several decades, OOps dating myself here :)

I finally broke down on Black Friday and bought a new set of PB Swiss metric hex wrenches. I have been using the rainbow sets for close to 20 years now and have never had a problem (other than lost paint, when I use cheaters). One set in my work kit and one set in the home kit- both are used daily, and hard- you can see my work kit (gray) gets hammered on quite a bit.

Anyway, been really, really curious about the knurled set when it came out. Saw it at a trade show last year and was really impressed. The one thing that surprised me when it arrived was the size. A normal 10mm wrench is 10mm wide. The knurled set, since the body is round, is 12mm diameter. And the knurled section is 12.5mm. All of them together make a pretty wide set.

I will let you know in a few decades if they hold up as well as the rainbow sets.

Matt

Matt I am soon going to order a Hex L-keys from PB and was considering the rainbow or the knurled keys so have a few questions I hope you can answer.
1. Do you feel the knurled is better than the rainbow?
2. Do you feel it is worth the extra to get the knurled instead of the rainbow?
3. Is there a noticeable difference in performance?
4. Do you think the knurled is as durable as the rainbow or more durable?

I am buying with durability in mind, so would like the most durable tools (so i buy new tools fewer times - and hopefully only once).

Not op but to chime in PB Swiss make great hex keys in my opinion the best hex keys out there. With the knurled a little thicker that would only mean they would be stronger, with durability in mind that sounds like a solid choice.

However one thing to keep in mind is that because they are thicker they may not fit into recessed holes(for example a 10mm hole wouldn’t fit these knurled because it’s too wide) But it shouldn’t be a huge problem. With hex(and Torx) you should have multiple variations anyways; 1/4 bits, L-keys, sockets, ball-end, stubby, short/long.

Gotta take the opposite stance. Those sets are so cheap for what it's suppose to be it's scary. It's especially important that it be well made because of how much spring loading goes on the plate. I've even seen the good sets flex so I bet it wouldn't take much abuse to snap the plate. The real (non Chinese made ones) cost as much as a Branick. By comparison it's hard to screw up the threaded rod compressors, and you also have a spread load plus a little redundancy. More importanly it was made in Taiwan which I trust 10x more than some random Chinese manufacturer flooding the market with as cheap a product as possible.

This one is a few years old, and the plates and the rod are all extremely beefy. I suppose the casting could be bad on some, but mine have worked extremely well and predictably across several uses by me and more by friends.

There are multiple examples on YouTube with pros as well as amateurs of the clamp-style letting go that it gave me pause. I talked to a few pals who are experienced wrenches or pros and they all hated them. So I got the one I have. I guess it's possible they've gotten worse, but I doubt it.

For what it's worth, I'm still very careful with this one too - those springs are to be respected!

The slots & dots monitor mount I ordered finally came in. I saw a lot of jerry rigged solutions online, but none that were to my satisfaction. The Snap On one is of very nice quality, ans is SS.

Cleaned and re-organized my hutch set up. You'd be surprised how much room it frees up, once you remove a monitor stand.

Also, when these lights first came out, I only saw the smaller version, so I did not realize the larger one had a cob strip on both sides. You can have both sides on simultaneously, and throws out a lot of light. It may be my new favorite work light at the moment! Don't see myself using the 3rd light on the head too often, but could come in handy if I need a spot light and already have this in hand.
