Dad has been cleaning out his garage. So, not new, but new to me.

b8e888f8a774fbc6deacbe95cc06180b.jpg

A dwell / tach he built from a magazine article, probably before I was even born. Used to use it working on his Bug. Not sure what I’m going to do with it.

Combination chisel and wood rasp. No idea why these tools needed to be combined. Not sure what to do with this, either.

Wera 1/4 hollow shaft nut driver. Got this to help me do the wipers on my dads Freightliner. I thought it was supposed to be made in Germany but it says made in Czech Republic. I’m guessing it’s legit?

Not surprising, Wera outsources many of its products to the Czech Republic.

Oh ok good to know. I was worried I had a knock off product. I was expecting a German made one.

All of my screwdrivers, with that particular style and color scheme, are made in the Czech Republic.

I have a complete set of those rasps/chisels ... no idea why I bought them 30 years ago... For some reason... I can get these chisels to a polished sharpness easier than any cheap chisel I have.

Back when I worked in a millwork shop, the boss had several drawers full of shaper cutters that had been profiled using old files. Some had different profiles on each end. They were handed down to him from his father, back during the Depression. Back then, when money was tight, the old files were much cheaper than new steel for cutters. They work fine in that application, but you couldn't tighten the collars down on them with gorilla strength or they would crack. Yet you still had to tighten then enough so they didn't fly out when you started up the shaper. Thankfully I never cracked one (nor ever had one fly out, either).

I need one for that purpose, haha.

lol, not really, but it does seem to be a commonly discussed item on the net.

You know what is kinda funny, is that our previous house had carpeted floors between the garage and the closest bathroom, which meant taking boots/shoes off to use the bathroom.

One of the big selling points for me at our current house, was a bathroom right off the garage, and hardwood floors on the main floor. 1st world problems I know!!

Snap-On FHLF80 with a beat comfort grip swapped to a Black SDD6 hard handle.
Drilled out the handle to 3/8" and chamfered the top edge, no cutting required.

A Christmas present from me to me. I have been wanting this type of blaster for a while. My old Dodge van leaks from the cracked sun baked seam filler (FL vehicle) along the rain gutters, this should clean the old sealer out nicely. Someone posted a 10% off deal at Tooltopia in the Hot Deals section which made the purchase just that much better.

Took a side job this winter with a golf course to go through all their equipment. Part of the job is getting the shop is shape and properly setup. While the shop itself is nice, some decent shop equipment and pretty well supplied, the tools were the most hodge podge picked over sad assortment. The owner gave me a credit card and said go get what this place needs. Between Northern, Menards, HF, Fleet Farm and Lowes, pretty sure over $3k at this point included a 44" HF bottom and $1200 in Icon impact sockets and wrenches. While on one hand fun buying tools, the overhanging feeling of he is going to shot me did start weighing on me. Top drawer on first attempt at set up. If it looks new, it is new.

Got a US General 5 drawer mechanics cart, Icon 1/4” drive ratchet to try out, and then from Northern Tool, I got a Nicholson ******* mill file (disappointed to see Made in Mexico, all the ones I got a few years ago we’re still marked Made in USA), some Stihl file handles (made for their chainsaw files but with a step drill, they can be made to fit standard files in 20 seconds, and they’re cheap too), and a Lincoln Electric magnet.

I decided I needed another 3/8 torque wrench since my older Snap-on (1995) read low above 45 lbs but dead on on the low side. I thought about sending mine off to get it recalibrated but then looked at a Precision Instruments split beam. Goes from 20 to 100 lbs. Now I have a 3/8 torque wrench from 40 inch lbs to 100 ft lbs. Very happy with my purchase.

Next purchase might be a 3/4 PI split beam so I'll be covered for anything I work on.

I'd shoot you too if you were buying Icon impact sockets for more than American sets can be sourced with a little looking. Or, perhaps most turn key, regular HF/Taiwan ones since they've been well established to be rugged. :dunno:

Oh boo hoo. Maybe a golf course doesnt have time to search for some decades old us stuff, and values the fact they can go to hf to swap out bad same day. He said they had "a hodge podge" of ****, so im very sure the icon stuff will be an upgrade. I swear some people here go so far outta the way to be negative its embarrassing.

Got this to complete my axle nut socket set. One of the aftermarket axle nuts on my dads car is a 32mm. And on some of my other vehicles too. Made in Taiwan they had made in China too but I made a point to get Taiwan.

Fiancee and her daughter got me this for Xmas. The garage at this house that we rent only has a single light bulb so a 4' LED light should brighten things up a lot, and bonus is built in speakers so no more cheap portable speakers that always seem to be in the way or need charged.

In a perfect world this would have been a nice set of SK, Wright and Proto, but that doesn't fit the need. While the box will be pretty much just mine to use this winter, once the ground crew is back, it is a community box for all to use. The Icon individual sets average around $60 and I bought eight sets between 3/8" and 1/2" in sae and metric. The big thing that made the Icon a good choice is the 3/8" set go to 1" compared to 3/4" of most sets. As for the regular HF sets, I'm sure they are fine, but they skip sizes I know the course's Kubota tractor uses.

It just seems much of the Icon line (by consensus that I've seen) is out of line for the price. Not skipping sizes is pretty minty though. And not having to shop around is nice; I just can't see them bringing more than DeWalt/Milwaukee/other premium imports. Obviously I wouldn't actually shoot you, tho

From my shopping around I felt the Icon was a pretty good bang for the buck compared to the offerings at other stores. The Icon wrenches are freaking cheap compared to what Milwaukee wants for their wrenche sets. I did buy a Milwaukee 1/4" set because it was the best set I found, but still pucker at $120 for it.

I saw that Milwaukee wants like $200 for their ratcheting long panel set...each. :shocking:

Guess they're meant to be an investment but I'll do gearwrench on sale for 1/4 that.

Kreg foreman pocket drill tool. Found on sale. I already have two versions of the portable system which I have several issues with. I’m prepared to hate this thing and resell it. But not before sharing why with you fine folks.

I would have considered GW, but it isn't really carried in many stores around here and I already made the rounds to enough stores, I was done looking. Prior to the Milwaukee set, I was liking the Menards masterforce 1/4" set, until I saw it was all 12pt sockets.
