Some new stuff arrived today, if my power steering pump showed up today via FedEx, I would have gotten something from all the majors.
Needed a tap handle for a tight space, I liked the design of these, and to be able to put a wrench on it.
IMG_20210223_153642266.jpg
Assorted rubber stoppers, some predrilled, great for vacuum applications. Sizes 1-6.
IMG_20210223_144356963.jpg
Snap-On 6" and Proto 2" locking 1/4" drive locking extensions, the ancient (10-15 year) Cmans are finally giving out, an excuse to buy.
IMG_20210223_113042959.jpg
Kastar/Lang 971 thread restorer set, I like it so far, used it on an oil pan today.
IMG_20210223_112928325.jpg
Lisle 39000 pulley tool, the handle's top thread was dinged up a little, I was not happy about that, 5/16-24 die cleared it up, but I was a little miffed I had to. Yes, this came yesterday.

Last, is a set of Grey Pneumatic 3/8" magnetic impact sockets. They seem a little too shallow in some sizes, we'll see how they do. I mainly bought them for the 8, 10, 12, and 13mm sizes, the depth for those are fine for me.

I tell the wife I ordered some capital investments. I would have really been happy if my Bushwood Country Club caddy shirt had shown up, that would have been my treat.

That lisle pulley tool works great, way better than the rebanded OTC kits I've borrowed and a fraction of the price for the snap-on tools.

Used it yesterday on a Monte Carlo SS power steering pump. You should have seen the **** I had to jury rig up, to get the belt off. Since I don't have the special GM FWD 5.3L belt tool.

DMT diamond sharpener.

Normally use a strop then kitchen honing steel for pocket knives with good enough results, but thought I would give this a try. Struggling a bit to use on first try as the knife blade catches on the circular cutouts.

Yesterday it seemed like very truck stopped at my house (lots of parts, but some tools mixed in), and I wandered into HF as well...

I'd gotten the Milwaukee set as a beater set, but saw the Icon set was 20% off while I was killing some time in HF, which included stubbys. I didn't notice the Milwaukee set lacked them when I grabbed it, so the Milwaukee set goes back.

The star of the day was a NOS set of wrenches purchased from a member here. Really terrific set - love the box, and really dig the matte/rough-chrome finish a lot.

Never had the need for my own as previous employer supplied a good DeWalt 20V one. Place I've been working at the past 1.5yrs supplies air power ones that aren't continuous flow and I hate dragging lines around for greasing.

Decided to give this thing a try after getting some positive feedback from others in my field of work. With the 30 day satisfaction guarantee I felt good about being able to return it if I end up not being happy with it.

Great choice. I just purchased a couple weeks ago myself. I am thinking about throwing one of these on the end.

I haven't had the chance to use mine yet unfortunately. I loaded a tube of grease into it but didn't even prime it lol. Might play around with it tomorrow morning before getting started. Seems to be well made.... not complaints in regards to first impressions on build quality.

Locking couplers are handy as hell. Unfortunatrly for me there are lots of fittings I need to access on equipment that won't allow the added bulkiness of them. I do plan on replacing the coupler with a good one as I've read the included one isn't very good.

Needed a new grinder after killing my little 7 amp Dewalt. Picked up a 9 amp Dewalt with a paddle switch. Also grabbed a few small things from Northern Tool.

I added a lock n lube to mine. So glad I did. I ran 6 tubes through my gun this morning and will need to do at least 4 tomorrow.

What equipment will you be greasing?

Shiny, I have that set and the standard set, not an every day need but when you need you need.

Agreed! I was helping my bud install new brake lines on his Chevy Avalanche and it was one of these wrenches - the only wrench, that allowed me to get in between the frame and the body to tighten a line. Ever since, I’ve been looking for a set. I’m sure they’ll stay shiny for a long time. Just glad I finally found them for a decent price.

I bought a three pack of (admittedly cheap) sheet metal gauges from Amazon. Not a single one of the slots is even close to accurate. They're completely useless as a tool, but do make rather spiffy keyfobs... which I'm fine with.
I actually have the far superior Miller version anyway & a couple of the round ones.

That's the better type of spring compressor to have

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/923/VBIrJ5.jpg

I am a huge chicken when it comes to things with as much energy as those springs. I absolutely hate the claw-type and just won't use them. This gizmo has been great, and paid for itself many times over. I'm still pretty respectful of the springs though...

Last night I spent a while cleaning up the plates a bit and putting a very thin coat of Superlube oil on the bar and thread. I also tried to put a little TLC in the case - the kit has been floating around among some friends for a while, and the hinges are beginning to fail probably from being dropped or put down too hard (it's pretty heavy). I really want to keep it functional, so I spent a bit of timing filing down the rough casting edges and put some fiber-tape around the area that's splitting. A short-term hack probably, but will kick the can forward a bit and limit further damage.

Haven't arrived yet but I bought a Husky 46" tool chest and matching workbench. Can't wait to organize my tool mess.

I find scrapers that can be pulled are useful at times. NAPA had this on sale. It comes in small medium and large sizes. I grabbed the small and medium sizes. SER 772953 and SER 772952.

Today’s little haul -
2 x SPRG618R spring push/pull tools - my dealer said he’s going to order a ton more of these as they’re the cheapest hard handle donor he’s seen.
Red hard handle long pick set
TK72 stubby 1/4 ratchet
TKF72 stubby flex 1/4 ratchet - my second because I like the first so much
TR108 pocket valve stem tool
SH6ASA scratch awl
IMSFXL33 1/2 to 3/8 33” locking impact extension. Aka “transmission” extension. Blue Point made in USA. I’ll probably end up ordering the other two available lengths

Finally bit the bullet & bought me a Fix-It-Stick. I was originally planning to get the regular ratcheting one but last minute changed my mind & got the ratcheting one with the removable locking drive. I'm so glad I did.

Also bought an extension. The collar spins so you can use it as a speeder. Unfortunately since this extension is for another one of their T-handles it doesn't have the locking groove on the hex. I knew that but that's ok as I'm planning to fix that so I can use it in place of the original knurled drive when I want.

Not sure if I will be using the case cause there's no room for the extension I got but it was cheap & worth a try. I liked one of their other cases but it was too expensive.

These things are nice, magnets are strong, but kind of pricey IMO which is why I hesitated so long to get one. But I'm happy with it & have no regrets.

Picked up the Napa “Fujiya” pliers wrench. Not bad for $23, but definitely prefer the ergonomics of the knipex for now. I do like the larger button on the Carlyles though. Made in Taiwan FYI. These pliers wrenches are turning into tape measures for me.

I never understand the attraction of tape measures. But flash lights, knives and especially ratchets, I am all in!

Sent from my SM-G981U1 using The Garage Journal mobile app

My theory is that I’m not sure if folks that have a lot of tape measures actually like tape measures that much. Personally find it more of one of those things that is convenient to have strategically stashed around when you are looking to use one. Like cars and both ends of the garage. Makes sense for flashlights and knives especially if they aren’t an EDC item. Ratchets am not so sure as they need to lives near socket sets, but I guess it can apply with multiple sets in cars, garage and shop in true GJ spirit. If there was a tape measure addiction post maybe I’ll change my mind, but the key here I think is distinguishing between tool addiction vs convenience. A fine line I think.
