Been wanting this set for a while, they finally came back in stock. Sunex 3/8” drive torque adapter set.

After viewing your post, I searched online and the cheapest one is $90 after tax for me. So I decided to hold on a little. Was startled seeing someone selling these on CL today. So I picked it up just now. Cost me $50. I always thought Sunex is a step lower than GearWrench and had tried to avoid it before. Hopefully I was wrong.

I am looking out for these as well, but am trying to be stubborn until there are more options as metric sets seem hard to come by. Proto makes SAE only. Looks like Snap on has a set for $240, which actually seems cheap for Snap on. Errr, not sure why Snap on skips the 17mm.

@javyLSU - do you mind commenting on quality and country of origin? I am big fan of Sunex's impact socketry, but their chrome stuff tends to get mixed reviews here.

Picked up all this stuff over the past couple weeks. Knipex was from Mister Worker - took absolutely forever to arrive, but the prices were good.

Home Depot was having a huge blowout on the Milwaukee locking pliers. I really like the locking C-clamps so far, much better than my Irwin's.

New oil filter wrench

SK Tuff1 3/8 extra long. This has immediately become my favourite ratchet. Was bidding on the roto version too but got distracted in the garage and missed the end of the auction by $1.

These obstruction wrenches were on a big sale at Canadian Tire. There are a few instances I wished I had them recently, but overall I don't expect they'll get a ton of use.

This little Craftex 'precision' drill press vise has been really great. Super happy with it. On sale for $80 and it is miles away from the hardware store junk equivalents. Zero slop, really tight and precise.

IMG_7743.jpg

Last item, some cobalt hole saws, plus a Lennox and Milwaukee 1" for a belt grinder project I'm working on.

Lucky! My HD here was full price on the Milwaukee pliers

I think these Sunex torque adapters are from the same mfg as the T&E set that I have- they look identical, other than the T&E starts at 6mm and skips a few sizes. At the time I bought them, this was the only metric non tool truck option that I could find. I don't use them a lot as I'm a home user, but they do see use several times a year and they're very good quality.

Cool! But what is T&E?

In the past I had trouble torquing some bolts in lower control arms. Hopefully this will make my life easier in the future. Do you think the 19mm one can be used when the torque is 90 ft lbs? I am afraid to break the little thing. I can also see myself using it to torque spark plugs.

They're outstanding - finish is excellent, no burrs or sharp edges anywhere, and sizing (on the two that I've used) is accurate. Also, this is the only set of these adapters that I found that had the sizes stamped into the tool, and not "laser etched" or some other nonsense. This is personal preference, but I can't stand hand tools that don't have the sizes stamped into the tool - I won't buy them anymore if they are only etched.

I don't know the COO off hand - I'll have to see if I can go dig the cardboard wrapper it came with out of the trash. I tossed it when I opened the package last week.

I would not be worried whatsoever in applying 90 ft/lbs to these adapters. It's just as stout (if not more so) than a regular wrench.

New Knipex set. Will likely be my last large NTD for a while... Over the last year, I purchased and have been working on building a business (think I have posted on her about in the past?) while simultaneously working another, full time, job. Well, I quit the full time gig and am now 100% self employed, so no more 'carelessly' spending until things are fully established and rolling along. We'll be just scraping by for a bit! (not really, but still...)

At any rate, been working on setting up a second set of hand tools, very similar to the main bag (Veto Tech XL on tablesaw in back of 2nd pic, along with set that is in that bag). I have a helper/mentor occasionally (previous owner of the business) and on several occasions, we have run into issues where he or I just have to stand around and wait, because we only have a single set of tools on the truck - not an efficient use of time/money at all. Ordered this second set of Knipex and looking for a used Veto Tech LC (slightly smaller than the XL). Also picked up a set of Vessel Megadora drivers for this bag, rest of stuff to stock the new bag is sitting there on the saw. The MB on the saw I bought used, thinking I would use it, but it's just too small. I have designated that as just a general purpose tool bag, something to throw in the truck on trips, take to parents in the need a hand fixing something, haul to the shed/outside for odd jobs, help a buddy put furniture together, etc. type bag.

Oh, and the dipped handle needle noses are to keep in the center console with an inspection light and 6in1 driver. Will use those for quick inspections, estimates, etc. No reason to take the whole tool bag!

T&E tool. No idea what else they rebrand; I looked and the T&E set I have isn't available currently. I'd rather have the Sunex set as the range is better for me, and I know I paid more $ for the T&E set.
I think 90 lb-ft would be no problem for the 19 mm. I know I've used the 17 mm to at least 60.
I think the T&E I have is the same as the Sunex for a given size: both have the size stamped, the mfg ID etched, and a single hole for retention. I don't use these a lot, but I do use them more than expected. Instead of just going by "feel", which I know would be fine, I can now be fancy and use a torque wrench.
I can't remember where the T&E set was made, but I'm sure Taiwan or China.

Thank you both. Looks like National Tool Warehouse has for $85 which is over the "free" shipping threshold. Also its nice that they are consistently 2 inches (center to center presumably) for calculating proper torque wrench + torque adapter torque ratings. Would hate to get calipers out every time plus I am bad at the required math.

Also you don't need to calc anything. Just place your torque wrench 90 degrees with the adapter you are good to go. Google online for reference or validation.

These obstruction wrenches are absolutely indispensable, and I keep this exact set in my travel tool kit. The best for hot side turbo work. Not possible with any kind of normal flat wrench on my 8.3 cummins turbo. Maybe some of them offset things would work where you put a ratchet on one side, theyre about 3" long but...a trusty wrench is always nice.

Nothing too special. Kept forgetting I didn’t have a 9mm craftsman RP, and had put in a husky as a temporary filler just to have a 9mm in that set. So I ebagged a fairly decent one. Still need a 19 and 20mm to complete this “set”. Just haven’t found a good enough one yet.

I'm sure I've missed posting a number of new tool purchases lately, but here's a few from the last week or so. Honourable mention to the 90T Titan rat, who's thin head profile and surprising strength held up to being used as a breaker bar to loosen caliper carrier bolts on the SportWagen. Only tool that would fit with the low pro Sunex triple square, and it was cheap enough on sale that I didn't cringe putting the jack to it.

Lexivon triple square sockets seem decent quality, and worked for three of four carrier bolts, and I've yet to put the Orion brake service tool kit to work, figured I'll wait until the motive power bleeder kit gets here to minimize the mess.

First two are my new tools today, an AST ball joint hammer nut. It threads on and then you can hammer on it or use an air hammer to get the ball joint or tie loosened! And then semi deep snapon 14mm impact universal to get where my short 14 won't.

The last photo doesn't show the new thing but the snapon guy gave me new drawer slides because all the ball bearings fell out of one. Also gave me an excuse to reorganize my hammer drawer while fixing it!

The open end on those stahlwilles, are they a different offset than most combos or does it just look different? Never really noticed if that's how they all are.

I'm not sure but will try to take some side by side pictures next to MAC Precision Torque/FACOM 440 and Snap-on wrenches later this week.

Williams WSMB-29F / TB. I could not pass this set up when I found it for $68.
3/8" drive - ratchet, extensions and universal joint. Metric 6pt 6-19mm (no skips) and SAE combo 6p/12pt 1/4"-7/8".

Where’d you find that?

I just picked up a Capri 22mm combo wrench and a Milton dual-head air chuck. (To replace the same item that after 25 yrs, finally gave out)

A note about the Capri wrench: The chrome in the box end isn’t quite perfect. NBD to me. In addition, the corners at the edges of the beam aren’t rounded over. As a matter of personal preference, this would be a deal-breaker for me on regular use wrenches, but since I seldom use the 22mm, it’s acceptable.

Amazon. I had to jump on it. The metric 6pt set sold it for me. Every once in a while I find Williams sets like this for stupid cheap.

Good lead for me. A little bit out of the way for me (drive through Oakland and a bridge toll), but if I have to help a friend this weekend in that neck of the woods they are coming home with me.

@qqzj - many thanks. Haven't tried the 90 degree trick, but will use it next time where access allows.

I had to finish out my 6-point socket in 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 inch drive. I got the following Tektons, even though my existing sockets are craftsmans.

1 1/2 inch, 1/2 drive
1 3/16 inch, 1/2 drive
1 1/8 inch, 1/2 drive
1 1/16 inch, 1/2 drive
15/16 inch, 3/8 drive
7/8 inch, 3/8 drive
1/4 inch, 3/8 drive
5/32 inch, 1/4 drive

Stopped by advance auto to get a bulb and couldn’t pass this up, $31. Broke the kit apart, 1/4” deeps went in my home tool box, 3/8” and 1/4 regular (plus ratchets and extensions) went in my general maintenance/travel bag, the few 3/8” deep got tossed in my “spare tools I’ll let people borrow/have or pass onto my kids first home” box. Found it odd it came with equal amounts of sae/mm sockets 1/4” regular and deep, plus 3/8” regular, but included no metric deep sockets. And only like 8 SAE sizes in deep.

The case went in the garbage, not garbage day yet if anyone wants it. Lol. Hard to pass up for the price.

I snagged the 20 piece TEQ Pro ratcheting wrench set from Advance Auto. These should absolutely serve their purpose for anything I'd use them for around the house. There have already been a couple instances where I could've used them in the past. I'm kicking myself for waiting this long to pick up a set of ratcheting wrenches.

Might be going to Florida to change out a fuel pump in a locomotive. Putting together a cheap box of tools just in case. Picked up the ratchet at Harbor Freight. Should be good for the job and I don’t have to bring two different ones. It’s 1/4 and 3/8.
