Will be very interested to hear how you like those after a bit. $70 each (Summit) for a 3 ton doesn't seem bad at all.

Not new tools, but new to me...brought them home today:

A couple of Baldor pedestal grinders.

The 623e has illuminated eye shields, quite nice. It's missing a spark arrestor, but a piece of scrap metal and a few minutes will take care of that.

The 612e had a mechanic's lamp attached to the pedestal. Took the lamp off for transportation, have not yet reinstalled it. The 612e is also mounted on a back-to-back plate atop the pedestal, I have a variable speed grinder I'll consider installing on the plate with the 612e.

Both pedestals are nice and heavy, one VERY heavy. Nice and stable.

They both spin steady and quiet, zero vibration. I'll be replacing the polycarbonate. Not bad, but...

Those pedestals are fantastic.

It’s that time of the week again. Snap-on brass hammer they call it bronze but I’m sure it’s probably close to the same thing. Long skinny needle nose pliers, and two 1/2 impact sockets a 12 and 14mm. I’m sure everything here will come in handy I’ve needed a brass hammer a few times and didn’t have one.

I bought a pair of the extended reach needle nose in red about a year ago and love them. They seem to be my new "go to" needle nose now.

I purchased one of these about 5 years ago and carry it in my toolbox in my Jeep. I have used it quite a bit while off-road on other people's Jeeps and like the built in jack stand. With the large flat base it works great in soft surface and is very stable. The only downside is that it is heavy. I wrap mine in a towel to keep it from rattling and use a zip-tie around the pin for the jack stand.

A couple of things from VIM: a flex head bit driver and a wrench extender.

I tried the wrench extender on a 26mm Supertorque which is one of my larger and thicker wrenches.

That is a cool looking wrench extender. I purchased one made by Laser and really like it but it doesn't have the comfort grip.

Putting some new tools to work. Cutting cement board still *****.

I would bet that would ****. I guess because I am a simple man. I have always used a drywall square as a straight edge, and carbide cutter similar to this:

ETA.... What's up with the "bad request" on links that are posted?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007ZT2DO/?tag=atomicindus08-20

If the link doesn't work for you, do a search for a:

Plastic Laminate Scoring Cutter & Degrouting Tool

Edit #2 lets see if a HD link will work:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gundlach-Plastic-Laminate-Scoring-Cutter-344/202533155
I score the front mesh with the cutter and then stand it up to snap it and cut the back mesh with a utility knife, like one would cut drywall. Very little mess involved. If I had to cut a round shape, I would use a Remington grit blade in my jigsaw.

I might have to get that!
I know score and snap works but didn't want to risk a snap going off course. On some I was only trimming off an inch or so off the 5 ft edge..

Just thought I would add a note about Tameson. Not sure if anyone else has ordered from them. I ordered Knipex pliers on Saturday evening. I received my order 4 business days later................ok who cares right?

Well they shipped from the Netherlands to Germany, Philadelphia, PA and then to me in West Virginia. Now that is service! We can't even get our act together shipping stuff within our own Country.

I will definitely be ordering from them in the future.

Was that the one that the Post Office had lost ?

yes.
USPS tracking said it arrived at the post office 01/14/22. For three weeks it was lost.
Speculative thinking says it may have been put in the wrong PO box, and the recipient just returned it.
DeJoy needs to be fired.
Last USPS screw-up was a Forsyth alligator wrench - took five months to arrive. When I finally got it, the package had tire tracks on it. Tire tracks! In the meantime, the seller had issued a refund. I mailed him a check when it finally showed up.
This is all on DeJoy.

Replacement set of sockets showed up.... Exact same ******* damage as the first set, Bag even looks like it was run over by a vehicle on a gravel road like the first set.

I'm glad it showed up, it doesn't look like it got beat up. We've been really lucky here with or mail deliveries.

Aren't those usable?
The idea is the plastic sleeve extends past the metal part of the socket so they don't mar the finish on wheels. They aren't much use for that if parts of plastic sleeve is broken off flush with the end of the metal part... which basically turns to tool into the exact oppsite of it's intended purpose
Therefore they don't meet the stated purpose of the tool, even if they were free.

I'm just gonna buy the 7 piece set from Horrible Fright... which is currently out of stock at both local stores..
Spend the extra coin and get this set. Lifetime warranty vs. 90 day on the 7 piece multicolored set. I’ve had them for 3 years now, and they’ve been great. FWIW, they look absolutely IDENTICAL to the equivalent MAC and Matco sets I’ve laid my hands on.

Astro tools 91410-1/4

This thing is seriously tiny. The head is about the same thickness as my Tone extra long 1/4 but it's actually a little more narrow!

Nothing against Astro. I own a dozen of thier tools now. Including the 1/2" and both 3/8" ratchets.

But I returned the 1/4". Honestly the head is so damn small, I had no confidence it was going to handle any amount of torque even for a 1/4" ratchet.

Your pictures don't do it justice, the head is like the size of a quarter, maybe.

That said, it would interesting to see a torque test or just how useful it will actually be.

@Astro_Pneumatic_Tools

Send me one and I'll test it! Everything I've ever used from Astro has worked great.

In stock at my closest store :)
The way I got my set was funny. Whenever I go into HF, I always check the ”clearance” section - that day, I noticed this set there, with a damaged 19mm socket. I’m sure someone brought the set back to warranty the 19mm, but they didn’t discard the damaged socket before putting out on clearance. So I bought the set with the damaged 19mm for $35, walked right back in the store, and warranted the 19mm socket for a brand new one…

Yeah it's absolutely tiny which I'm hoping works in my advantage working on Subarus. Valve cover 10mm bolts and coil pack 12mm bolts is what this will mostly be used for because of the space constraints with the frame rail.

I just did plugs on an Outback. I used this for the coil packs. It's tiny and has a flex head. I'm sure it won't stand up to much torque, but for small bolts it has been fine.
