I bought this:

To remove this from a Honda swing arm:

Unfortunately, only one side broke free. The other side just.....well, broke.

Totally irrelevant to the post, but that top weld has zero penetration. Sheesh.

Ban, how stupid. Cal, aka CARB, has the strictest regs in the nation and yet the worst air pollution. Just buy 'em in Nevada, Oregon or Arizona.

Have you ever seen a picture of the LA air in 1970? I guess not, but the smog was so bad, there was zero visibility at that time. It was like how the big cities in China are today. And today CA has twice as many people as it did 50 years ago and yet the air is much cleaner.

Agreed! If you borrow a tool once, you need to go buy that tool so you don’t borrow it any more. One time I used a friends craftsman new professional pressure washer and ruined it. I had to buy him a replacement because it was the right thing to do! My conscience was worth more than me not being a good friend

blakethecarguy- do yourself a favor- don’t loan any more tools, especially power tools.
Those guys are not your friends if they are breaking your tools and not replacing them. They are taking advantage of you! If they need to borrow a power tool- chances are they need to buy their own👍. It takes most techs only one or 2 times being shut down in public in the shop when asking to borrow a tool before they figure it out.
I'll generally go twice, my cordless stuff, you have a ratchet, go use it.

Spent this afternoon hitting up thrift stores. Also went to Lowes and Walmart to pick up a few things.
Here’s today’s bounty
Hart pass through bit driver
A pair of speed square.
Astro pneumatic drill
Freud saber saw used, it came with several packages of blades. For what the blades would cost at the store means the saw was free.

Yup I feel you there. If someone want to borrow a metal tool like socket or wrench, they get to borrow it once. After that, you need to buy your own. Power tools- no way. They cost a lot and can wear out so they don’t get lent out.

Not a tool, but will free up some space in my box. I believe it’s made by sunex but had been waiting for summit racing to ship one I ordered back in November. Had this in my Matco cart for a couple weeks and they emailed me a discount code so I said why not.F90682F8-DE0B-4706-937D-0906B49ECA1C.jpeg

It's that Wednesday again. Blue and red pliers were for warranty. Picked up the pocket pry bars, still waiting on a red one. I've got the 7" Malco so figured I'd pick up a 10" pair of the boutique version. Leads and plug gapper were just because.

Snappy owes me 5 bucks now.

I got one of my pocket prybars waiting on the other to come in. This is beside my Amazon special. I also found the contractors in our buildings tossing this rigid table saw out, they said it died on the job site and just got replaced so I'm gonna take a crack at it, it looks fairly niceIMG_20220209_171225760.jpgIMG_20220209_171238641.jpgIMG_20220209_142915086_HDR.jpgIMG_20220209_154054052.jpg

Those taps are a steal at those clearance prices! I picked up the metric ones. Made in Japan.
Yeah, only 2 metric were on clearance that I grabbed... M10x1.5 & M10x1.25
I'll be stopping in weekly to see what else goes. Don't really see a method to the madness. Mostly Metric tools were on clearance so far and some larger socket sets.
But I did grab the 1/2in Dr SAE impact socket sets, went back for the $11 Deep set too. Was lacking SAE impacts.

Oh boy guess who went to The Home Depot and spent too much lol 😂. The battery was free this time because warranty. The Home Depot in the ghetto has way more tools and had the batteries separate. They had exactly one left and the nice lady at the service desk took care of it. They said where I bought it in a kit I’m technically supposed to call Milwaukee or bring the whole kit in to replace. But they went ahead and done it anyway and I appreciate that. Then I seen the tool isle and there was no turning back lol 😂. This one has a ton more tools than the one on our end of town it’s been so long since I’ve been in this one so I didn’t remember what they had. Everything there is for work except I probably will keep the adapters at home as I have those at work and I broke a really cheap one at home so that’s what I’ll probably do. The shallow 13mm is a replacement for my coworker who’s socket I cracked. The 13 deep is for me. Then the 19mm impact is for my coworker Joker. The long ratchet is 3 inches shorter than the one I ordered from Snap-on over three months ago now that I still don’t have in my hand. I was going to order the stubby ratchet when I got my impact but I decided to wait on it so I seen it at this location and grabbed it. Also grabbed the 140 tooth 1/4 ratchet too. It’s supposedly a new product from Husky it was under the new product label. The wrenches I got because I like to have extras of those. A 10mm ratcheting wrench is a life saver especially when replacing Subaru batteries. Both made in China they had some newer combination wrenches that were made in India and I will pass on those as I’ve never not broken a tool from India lol. Got my mom’s military discount on it too so it took some off the bill which helps a lot. They didn’t say a word when I was putting all of this in the buggy I was really surprised lol 😆

The handle on the stubby 3/8 ratchet is a bit odd :dunno: The long 3/8 ratchet seems like a bargain. Husky moving to made in India wrenches :wtf:

@BlakeTheCarGuy Love the tools... but... I have had zero luck with Husky sockes/wrenches. I don't know why but the chrome is always pealing off or the socket is not breached properly and is tight or misshaped. My guess is they have improved their manufacturing and quality control based on how much stuff ppl here buy them.

Would you consider them equal to ... say... craftsman USA? from back in the day?

I have the locking flex version of that Husky 100 position ratchet, and the few times that I’ve used it, I really like it. I did open the head and lube it with Permatex Ultraslick. Nice and smooth, I would definitely buy it again.

They are made by Apex same people who make Gearwrench and stuff. Which isn’t what it used to be either. So far in my Husky things no chrome peel. I would be exchanging them if they start that. No issues for me with being mis-sized either most of my stuff is recent though so nothing too old except the really old Husky stuff from the pawn shop. Personally I’d rather have Kobalt over Husky but choose Husky because 6 point is more readily available individually. I did notice the 8mm seemed a little loose when changing something for my brother in law the other day. I would put them a step under the old Craftsman. The only thing I’d put equal or higher is the ratchets they are Taiwan made for the ones I’ve shown here and seem pretty well made.

I agree on that. The handle it pictures online looks a little different by the pictures. I figured this is the new style. It’s made in Taiwan so that’s a plus I thought all Husky was China. Yeah the India made wrenches I’ll be avoiding it’s not worth gas driving to the store to get them replaced if they break because I can guarantee it will be multiple trips. China is bad enough but India takes the cake.

Apex is not what they used to be. I know it pisses off the Gearwrench fan boys to admit, but I while still buy Gearwrench hand tools on occasion, I avoid their ever growing line of made in China. There are simply better alternatives on the market. I'm also not a fan of paying premium prices for Milwaukee's line of made in China hand tools either (ie. their impact sockets).

I hope that Depot will continue selling made in Taiwan hand tools, whatever the brand, and not replace them all with China or India.
But sadly it seems made in Taiwan may become a luxury for hand tools, with more and more production from these massive tool conglomerates and company acquisitions seemingly going back to the mainland.

I'm not sure when it happened, but I've also come across some made in India Craftsman tools lately. I don't buy Chinese Craftsman as it is, and I sure as **** won't buy made in India either. Still waiting on their USA comeback.

Had a Snap-on Thursday this week lol. Didn’t make it to us on Tuesday because our other shops are so big and they kept him really late last time so he came to us today. Wasn’t going to buy anything but seen the straight jaw locking pliers in 10 inch. They made be cheaper by the company who makes them but I like the hassle free easy warranty on the truck plus he has been good to me from day one so I don’t mind paying extra for service. Also got my bosses Blue Point vise grips warrantied they finally came in but I don’t have a picture. I wanted a calendar and they were free so I got one lol. Going on something at home I’m sure. My balance is now under $500 too so I’m happy. Anyone in the NRV area who needs tools give him a call.
