New hammers for work. Wanted to give Halder a try and KC Tool is running a seasonal sale on certain ones. Initial impression: they are really nice. I like the Simplex the most and I’ll probably be ordering more sizes. I’ll see how the deadblow works out. It was either the Halder or a Lixie and since the former is cheaper and more readily available I figured I’ll test that one first.

Also picked up a 6mm hex bit socket from Heyco.

I have a couple Halder deadblows, they're really nice and well made. Top quality stuff.

These Vessel bits are excellent, like everything Vessel makes.

The Felo ratcheting screwdriver I picked up and I have mixed opinions about it. It is rather bulky compared to my beloved Vessel ratcheting screwdriver. Also, the “right angle” adjustment button can get in the way as it protrudes from the shaft of the handle. Otherwise it’s a high quality tool with German heft and a smooth mechanism.

I love both of mine. It is about the only ratcheting screwdriver that I do not accidentally hit the button/slide to change directions. I use the 90º position mostly for the last two or three turns, for controlled torque, and other times when it is needed to fit the work space. I agree about the heft and smooth mechanism, and the right angle "button" has never been an issue for me.

New guy here. so howdy every one. went to a local garage sale yesterday and found some not abused but neglected Wilton vices 3 ea. and close to 20 Wilton 400 series c clamps 4" thru 10". and for some reason I just could not leave any of it there. Then 2 miles down the road I found a well equiped Black & Decker valve grindind machine that followed me home also. I came here doing reaserch on the wilton goods. Thank for providing this wonderful site. Russ.

Been looking for a while, found a set for what I considered a reasonable price. I don’t own Snap on so i can’t compare there, but these are the best drivers around, and I own a bunch of diff brands.

I guess the red handles were worth the extra $100 to you since Witte Germany makes those for Matco.....and you could have bought for 1/3rd the price off of Amazon 🤓

I used it on an electrical panel and the outer edge of the panel was exactly at the point here the button/slide is located on the shaft. If the button didn’t protrude as much or if they located it in a more hidden area, I think it would be better.

That said, it’s a well made tool.

I would rather not admit that. But they were not cheap. If I get lucky I will make 50 bucks ea. when I sell 2 of them to good homes where they will get used and not sit under a bench getting rusty like the last ouner. I really dont know what they are worth/or would sell for,do you know? Russ

Curious on the quality of the Garant tools. Also the country of origin.
I have looked at their stuff for awhile, but not sure about quality.

This is my first set of Garant tools, and I've only used them for some light duty work thus far so I can't provide much feedback yet. They came highly recommended from our maintenance crew at work. A good portion of their tools are Garant including socket sets, pliers, screw drivers and rolling work benches.

I can say that these ratchets have an incredibly smooth ratcheting mechanism for having a low tooth count. They have a nice solid feel with beautiful chrome plating.

The packaging and tools themselves aren't marked with country of origin from what I can see. There also doesn't appear to be any mention of it on the Hoffmann Group website.

$30 online at Lowes. Old school 24 tooth heavy duty 3/4 drive. Sounds like a winch on a boat trailer. Seems well made. Steelman. It ships unlubricated, quieted down with some grease. The plate is 5/64 thick.0EAF781D-4845-4217-B63B-A15B617FD7D5.jpeg

I just checked online, at Lowe's, and it says that the item is "unavailable"? :dunno:

Looks like a nice, durable ratchet! (y)

Wouldn't mind getting one.

EDIT: Homedepot has it but for like $13 bucks more.

After seeing another thread where a member picked up a piece of railroad track, I thought it would be cool to have some. Found a 12” 29lb. piece on eBay with free shipping, it was $40. I have spent more money on dumber stuff than that in the past 🤣

Plus I think it is better than a plain anvil………however, I want to find one of those as well 😉

I’ll post a pic when it arrives.

Irwin pull saw, Milton air chuck, striker cap pry bar and a suction cup to pull down the attic hatch we lifted last night.

And my $40 Kijiji find Delta Table Saw! The top needs some attention and could probably stand to have a new blade put on it, but it fired up and cut a small chunk of wood when I picked it up, so I figured it's worth it even if I need to put a few bucks into it.

You can’t get all these sizes in a 1 stop shop package directly from Witte or Amazon. I am pretty sure i have priced it out before and for all 10 pieces you’d be close. This is easier.

I ordered once last year and the whole process was terrible (ordered item had some quality control issues)...Did not even get the whole amount of money back (I returned the item). I will never order there.

An odd Stahlwille torque wrench.

I thought this might have an odd conversion due to what it is, but tested against a known-good torque wrench it's spot on. I love this thing. Such an odd tool. I first saw one a few years ago on eBay, and seen a couple since but they've all been beaten up old ones.

20220801_224942.jpg

Yes, this is my third order from them. No problems, and communication has been good.

Hmmm, interesting. I just compared them on price for some Hazet items i've ordered from Autodoc and they're a bit more expensive. I'll hold fire until there's something i can't get elsewhere.

Side note for Europeans: Autodoc seem to be the cheapest source of Hazet tools online that i've found.

If its on their sale day, maybe. But Autodoc stopped putting list price and discount % on their site, there's one price now and if you don't track an item you don't know if its a good or bad price. I have bought all my Hazet torque wrenches from them on a sale day.

Also idealo.de to check prices for german online shops (that most won't ship overseas). Amazon.de not great for Hazet as they've been caught selling Hazet factory seconds on numerous occasions.

I didn't track the prices, but quick comparasins with other sellers, shipping costs, etc they've come in a bit cheaper than others. I've used them for parts before and they were pretty good to deal with.

Not had issues with Amazon and Hazet so far.

This arrived in the mail. I checked my order history at Zoro, and I did indeed order a J5450, with an FW at the end. I think a repair kit will give me the 16 inch 1/2 inch 24 tooth male I was looking for. I’m going to read the descriptions in more detail in the future. 47932674-5478-4A3C-A1D0-8FD46E8684AA.jpeg1E093A41-1FF2-4E11-97C4-597A0A479136.jpeg

An odd Stahlwille torque wrench.

20220801_191059.jpg

It's not modified, it left the factory like this. Bit of a paradox; a precision torque wrench coupled with a pipe wrench that mangles everything it touches. The intended purpose it testing rebar, i guess to check it against twisting when set in concrete.

That's funny, I've never seen a torque wrench with a pipe wrench head. Years ago I was checking a drawing and it had a torque spec on an NPT pipe. I asked the engineer where he got that from. He basically made it up. They wanted some type of torque spec on the drawing and I eventually found a minimum spec somewhere for that size pipe. The drawing note we ended up using was something like, use this thread sealant, .X" minimum thread engagement, ** minimum torque. Of course we all knew the guy assembling it would apply the sealant and then just tighten it as much as he could. But fancy drawing notes make the customer happy...

Snap-on Tuesday today. He wasn’t able to make it yesterday. Turbo Sockets SAE and metric. I’ve had to borrow these several times from a coworker so needed to get my own. He doesn’t care that I borrow them but after awhile we all wear out our welcome lol. Purchased a SGD10BG screwdriver well pry bar I should say lol. Another one I’ve had to borrow a lot it’s a great pry bar. I didn’t particularly want green but it’s what he had and I don’t feel like waiting lol. But now I can officially say I have the three main colors of instinct handles lol. My coworker has the high-viz one and it’s very nice looking and I say that but I hate yellow lol. Wish they made a hard handled version of this. I had actually never seen this size till he got his set then I borrowed it probably more than he has used it lol. Seen this one on the truck after he pointed it out to me. I wanted my own anyway and had told him I wanted one if he seen one. Haven’t gotten my orange soft grip roto head ratchet yet should be in Friday hopefully.

Do you get to take any of your paycheck home or does it all go to the tool trucks? Kidding aside, those Turbo Sockets are a definite want for me. I've got some similar style ones and they worked well, so I'd like the real deal brand

These are on sale this month if you want to take advantage. $75 off. Still a lot to pay with the $250 price tag but man have they saved my **** a lot of times. Just had to use one today on a rounded GM Ecotec drain plug with the 10mm head. Could of used a regular sized extractor but really wanted to use these. So far great.

I'm not sure exactly how different they are from Irwin Hanson and Harbor Freight models, but when you need them, you NEED them for sure

Neither Irwin or HF have 1/4 drive turbo sockets. Quite useful for small fasteners and small spaces, specifically Subaru belt motor timing cover bolts that are always crusty. Plus lifetime warranty.

Omega Technologies is just another distributor.
Hudson Bearings is the manufacturer and they dont sell direct, only through authorized distributors.
