Some new tools today. Had Snap-on fix a screwdriver I had broke so the screwdriver isn’t new but the tip is. Also picked up a set of Knipex twin grips from Matco as well along with the meat sticks. He couldn’t find the Matco part number for the Knipex so right now I have a free pair of pliers until he finds the number lol. One thing I noticed is all the other Matco Knipex have Matco stamped on them these didn’t. These are Knipex version of Vampliers which are excellent. And then some cool powdered hand cleaner which I thought was interesting so I’m going to try it out. Then of course you know I can’t go a day without going to the auto parts store lol. I picked up an 8mm 1/4 drive socket at Auto Zone along with a 3/8 drive shallow 22mm too I have one at home but none at work I had the deep version just haven’t found the 22mm 3/8 drive shallow in stock until today. When I got the PowerTorque 8mm I had originally went in to look for a 10mm of course they didn’t have one so somehow I didn’t remember I just had bought an 8mm so I bought another one lol. Oh well can’t have too many 8, 10, 12 or 14 for my job lol. The guy at Auto Zone was like these ain’t as good as Snap-on but the warranty is just as good and they will be replaced with no questions asked if you break one. Fortunately I haven’t broken a Duralast before lol they are pretty good sockets a little pricey but that’s to be expected at a parts store.

I need to see a picture of your socket drawer(s)

Much love for the 1st gen (best gen) Tacoma.

I have a '98 xtra cab 3.4 with the 5speed and an 04 double cab. Looking to do the 5speed swap into it.
Yup First Gen is the Best Gen!

Nice. I've lost interest in doing mods to my truck now. I just take care of it/baby it/keep it clean & daily drive it. Never selling it, I still get asked all the time. I've had my 01 since 04.

I've seen you on TW. I use my old SN over there. ;)

Hell yeah. Nice to see you around.

I should sell my '98. I barely drive it anymore. But I've owned it since '99 and it's too painful to think about selling.

I'm not in love with my '04. Too much electronic sh*t to deal with. Drive by wire, servo motors, etc... just give me the good 'ol cables.

I don't think I'd ever sell the '04 either at this point unless the price was right and I could line up an '01 or '02 DC

Yeah I hear ya. They don't make em like they used to. New Tacomas aren't the same any more & they just gonna keep getting bigger. Still I'd take an 03-04 over a turd gen anyday!

Yeah my 01 is still good old fashion throttle cable, no abs either. Only thing is I didn't know better at the time & bought a "pretender". Friends & coworkers convinced me too. And it was all I could afford at the time. Never thought I would like this truck so much or keep it half as long as I have.

Again I didn't know any better, I was a street racer looking to get out of trouble & just drive something I wouldn't mod. But it's in my blood, then I found CT & the truck only stayed stock for a few months. I'm a city boy too, I don't have friends that go wheeling. Fire roads, desert, & Pismo is all I ever go to.

At least it's easy to convert. I was set on going LT, then lost interest, then wanted to convert, then lost interest. Converting may still happen one day but I don't care anymore, not right now anyway. I wanna get a 6g T4R next & won't make that mistake again even though I don't need it. Lol But again, never selling my 01.

Palmac order just arrived last night while I was at work. The Wera precision screwdriver set is for home. I’ve been waiting for these and cannot wait to use them for all the little things that constantly need adjustments.

Sockets are Ko-ken. 19-21-25/32 because I had the blank spaces on the socket tray and it was killing my OCD. The rest are a 1/2 drive metric 10-22, 24, 27, 30, 32. They are replacing my Wera socket set at work.

Couple of new arrivals: Klein Linesman pliers with crimper and Klein strippers. Also picked up DeWalt reversible ratcheting wrenches in metric. All eBay finds. Not smoking deals but cheaper than brand new. 1664063110051.jpeg

nice looks like you got the ASD versions which they stopped selling when they realized they were competing with themselves/Proto.

I did. I had been looking for a nos or new set in metric. Paid more than I wanted for them, but this set was new in box and metric. Still was cheaper than going with icon, but I’m betting there is no warranty. Wish I’d bought them when they were still offered for sale when they went for $40 a set. One of those shouldn’t bought them when they were out do overs.

Was one of those who got lucky with the $40 sets from Sears 10 years or so ago and is probably one of my most used set of wrenches. The only issue is I later bought a non ASD SAE set and regret it. Would go easy on them if you can. A "warranty" is probably going to get you a downgraded replacement unfortunately in this day in age.

A couple more this weekend for the collection. The 7/8 I purchased because I have to put new brake hoses on dads big rig. I do have a cheap 7/8 at home but I don’t want to round the fittings off. I don’t really want to bring home my 7/8 from work either. I could not locate a 7/8 or even a 22mm line (flare nut) wrench anywhere I figured Napa would have them but I was wrong so I purchased this in hopes it will work too. It has like a flank drive open end. I ordered a USA made set of SAE line wrenches from eBay too that has a 7/8 but I think he was wanting to do them sooner than they will be here as he is out of service till they are fixed because he got a write up from the DOT. He is going to drop off a trailer tomorrow then he is out till it’s fixed. So I’ll probably pull them off tomorrow after work and then he will have them made Tuesday and hopefully we can get them back on.

Also checked Northern Tool and came up short. So while I was there I got a couple needed sockets for home. The 8mm will definitely get used all the time. The 20mm is a fill in for my at home shallow set one of many of them haha but I didn’t want to pay $6 for 3 or 4 of the same sockets when I have only used 20mm a handful of times. The 23mm however does have a use and that’s for the differential plug on my Mazda. I have two twelve point versions but don’t really like using 12 point if I don’t have too this is the first time ever seeing a 6 point this size in any store.

I will post pictures of the flare nut wrench set when it arrives it’s nothing fancy but one of my favorite USA made brands and it has original packaging which is a plus to me.

Since I'm recently gotten back into the car hobby, I've purchased a membership at a couple of junkyards in my area. The cars that I like to work on are 20 to 30 years old, so new OEM parts have been discontinued for some time. Pulling parts from the junkyards started to make sense.

I've made enough trips to the yard this past summer that I felt that I needed build a small tool kit specifically for this purpose. I hated packing up my "good" tools, then getting to the junkyard and realizing that I forgot something. Then leaving the junkyard and worrying that I left a tool behind. I've looked at what others have done here on the forums and starting putting together my own set.

I could get by just fine for a while with only 8, 10, 12, 14, 17 and 19 mm sockets and wrenches. I started to look for single sockets and wrenches in these sizes thinking that I could save a few bucks rather than buying the whole set. That doesn't seem to be the case. It's hard to beat the price of HF's Pittsburgh brand, so that's where I've started. For some reason the shallow 3/8" sockets from Pittsburgh are only available in 12 point, so I went to AutoZone for the Duralast set.

I want to pick up some 1/2" drive sockets as well, so I'll have to look elsewhere for sets in 6 point.

I bought this to keep in my car. It wouldn’t be my go to for working on cars but I wanted something that was relatively complete and inexpensive in case it gets ripped off. It’s made in Taiwan not the USA, but I have no problem supporting Taiwan with my tool buying rather than some other places. $39.

For the money, love the Duralast sets. Especially in metric. Just purchased both shallow and metric for our cottage.

Don't expect too much. Dasco Pro are some of the worst punches I've ever used. That picture actually shows a bent tip already.

Heh. As a general rule, I avoid any consumer products labeled, "pro" or "professional grade", etc., for about the same reasons I avoid contractors with the words "Integrity", or "honest" written on the side of their truck.

Also avoid anything with ‘eco’ written on it, usually means ‘more expensive, less effective’.
