Not sure why the 8" phillips has no hex shank. With the stubby ... don't know for sure either. I've never used a wrench to assist when using a stubby in the past, but there might come a time when you wish you could. Still, there are other options for breaking the screw loose in tight quarters, then using the stubby for quick removal. That's not a very good answer on the stubby, I readily admit. As for the top large flathead, it has a square shank, so you can still put a wrench to it, albeit with few angles to get at it.
