I have decided that once I sell off 100-200 of these cheap *** screwdrivers I own, I am getting a set of those hard handle Williams^.

on a side note, who outbid me on the 1-1/2" Superrench Saturday night?

Don't forget your 'lectrical slots. My SDE-43 is the third Williams from bottom left and my SDE-8 is the third Williams from bottom right in this set.

JH Williams #100P-6SD

Well, thanks to this thread I ordered up a 5pc set of mixed Williams hard handle goodness. To round out the set a bit, I added an 8in slotted and 8in Phillips as well. One thing has me curious though:

In AL's post above, the pic shows that the 8in Phillips has no hex shank and that it also has a smaller handle compared to the 8in slotted. It isn't a big deal but I usually have an eye for details and wonder what purpose this would serve making some different. It appears, at least in that same pic, that the top large slotted and both the 8in phillips and the stubby phillips have no hex shank. Anyone happen to know why? I'm just curious if there might be a reason for this.

PS: For anyone wondering, I also ordered the Western Forge made Craftsman screwdrivers from Epstein's. Nice as the Craftys are, they are no match for the Williams in terms of tip quality. Still, I do like the cushion grip of the WF Craftsman set quite a bit and consider them a bargain.

Not sure why the 8" phillips has no hex shank. With the stubby ... don't know for sure either. I've never used a wrench to assist when using a stubby in the past, but there might come a time when you wish you could. Still, there are other options for breaking the screw loose in tight quarters, then using the stubby for quick removal. That's not a very good answer on the stubby, I readily admit. As for the top large flathead, it has a square shank, so you can still put a wrench to it, albeit with few angles to get at it.

Dear Williams’s fans,
I only have 2 Williams. The little one is an open ended ½ & 9/16 that must have been used on a production line where the ½ side was used every few minutes. It is almost worn out to match the 9/16 side. Look at the picture you can’t tell the difference. The other is a 1 5/8 that is 13 ½ inches long. It was on a local auction with $1 minimum bid with 2 minutes remaining and no bids. I felt bad for it sitting there lonely with no bids so I bid $1 and won it. I have no use for it but it will look cool hanging on the wall as wall art. Right now it just sits on my bench and everyone that sees it says “what a cool wrench”

I have two older William's wrenchs on ebay right now, but the William's stuff that I have that won't make it to eBay...

Two old S wrenches, and a tiny little superwrench, maybe 3" long.

A few hundred posts later I finally find my way to the Williams thread. Wow. Should I have waited a day to make it a year from the last post, LOL?

I found a couple nice pieces this weekend at the flea market. These guys had four very old (mostly homemade) wooden chests UNTOUCHED full of tools from an estate cleanout. A real mix of things. I was the first to dig in as the stuff wasn't even out for sale yet. Not quite the honey hole I thought. 90% of it should probably stay in the chests.

I did find this little gem, a Williams-made female 3/8" ratchet Gun Mounting Wrench 87-69-737 with 7/8" socket. This happened to be identical to the male drive socket I found a week ago on the ground at the same flea market (strange, I know).

So far I've found an ended Ebay listing from last year stating that this went to an Army Air Force Curtiss P40 Warhawk Fighter Plane. My question is, does anyone have any documentation on this ratchet?

I also rescued this other neat old Williams piece. I don't know the exact purpose it had, but it looks to be a 1/2" drive socket driver minus the cross bar. Possibly from a drain plug socket set similar to the one seen at Alloy Artifacts (No. 100 1/2- Drive Drain plug socket set with Sliding T handle SP-20E). This looks close to the driver in that set but of a different age.

This has Part number 1982.

My only Williams tool. Bought it a wile back, but I have never used it because when I first bought it, I thought it was a 1/4 drive. Back home I figured out it was a 9/32 drive lol!

I totally agree. They would be very convenient. Probably would just be too costly when it comes to warranty and would end up being produced overseas if they were made.

An uncle of mine just gave me my Grandfather's work toolboxes. Some neat stuff in them, this set fits here though. Ratchet looks like it was replace by the Par-X and there is a Truth extension. But almost a complete set of Williams Sockets. Missing 15/16 and 9/16" Looks like the the 1/2" might have been replaced, the finish is different. I think the dull finish is the cadmium "War" finish? I bought a 15/16" chrome from Ebay recently and an S51 ratchet. I wonder if I could ever find the 3 sockets in "war" finish?

Williams S-52EHA 1/2 ratchet. I like this ratchet a lot and plan on getting one in 3/8 as well.

These three 1/4" drive sockets are the only Williams tools that I have. They're kind of interesting however. As one can see, they're four point sockets. I've seen larger four point sockets, but these are rather small at 3/16" (part #NM-406), 7/32" (part #NM-407) and 1/4" (part #NM-408). An old Williams catalog describes them as "midget electrical sockets."

I have a m51 williams 1/2'' ratchet thats kinda rare. At least i don't see many around. The ratchet is made out of brass so that it doesn't spark. Used to work in plants and places where a spark wouldn't be a good thing. Got a bunch of old williams sockets and a few superwrenches too. Never use them. Will sell them if anyone is intrested.

I was just browsing Ebay to try to find a 9/16" socket to fill the 1940s vintage set that was my Grandfather's work set. When I was looking at Alloy Artifacts I saw that the set I have also came with an optional extension that I thought looked really cool. Model number S110. I just thought I would share this guys picture, he has that extension. I wonder how rare it actually is? Most of the stuff is newer than the stuff I have, except that extension and maybe the T handle.
