Shower stall question

Need a hand from you that have installed a shower stall unit. I need to replace a unit in my downstairs that has started to crack near the drain. It's also worn and old... The current unit is 35" wide, 33.5" deep (finished drywall measurments). Due to the door opening size, I have to use a 4 piece unit instead of a single piece. I found a unit that is 36"x36", but from the builder specs, it is 37" including the mounting flange. The total rough opening of the framed alcove is only 36" deep. Can I get this unit in? If it is possible, what will be required?

Thanks guys, this is a new endeavor for me.

Rebuild with a floor pan and tile...those one piece units are ok when you're doing a new install but there's almost zero play for drain/walls.

No, its not going to fit unless you frame it out to the specified rough in. Replacing non-standard units with new standard dimension items is always a PITA.

With out a major rebuild it will not work, So the 5 pcs kit is about your only option, unless you want to do major tile work.
I am in the Yakima Valley, What part of eastern Washington are you in?

I was planning on a multi piece kit, I think the MAAX Kit I looked at was 4. The idea of tile is appealing, but with no experience working with it, and a limited budget, I was hoping for a more cost effective solution.

I'm in the lower Columbia valley, Tri-cities area.

Look at a 36" Sterling Ensemble unit - it's 36"wide and 34" deep.
I forget where it's established - but quite a few codes pick it up - showers have to have a certain free space area, and as such there are fewer small replacement or choices brand new than you may expect. ( from your post it's looking like you have already found it pretty slim )
I've had luck in remodels since often I've found showers framed without being load bearing walls on all sides so you may be able to replace some or all wall studs with shaved down 2x4's - I did that in order to sneak mine in. Good luck !

Bath Fitter might do shower stalls. Right after my accident, the tile in my tub/shower was going bad and leaking so I had them redo it as a semi long term, temporary job. I couldn't afford to gut and redo the entire bathroom and couldn't do the work myself. It turned out so well we still haven't redone it almost 20 years later.

I've seen offset drain assemblies at my lowes. Maybe be enough to get you that inch in 1 direction

That might work, from the specs. My big issue if the rough frame opening is 36x36, one wall has the plumbing, the other is a finished linen closet. The back wall has the furnace on the other side. Can't really adjust any of the walls.
