I've got my "business" lighting planned, but I also want to do some "showroom style" lighting to show off my car just for fun. I'm thinking four sets of track lights surrounding the car will probably give me the effect I'm looking for. It's a small 20x20ish with 9' ceiling. Has anyone done anything like this?

I'm a huge fan of nice halogen lights. The CRI on anything fluorescent or LED is going to be much more costly over equivalent halogen / incandescent lights. I love the warmth and color that a good halogen can provide. There are even some paintings that require a halogen for maximum art factor. (think 'peter lik')

As far as lighting layouts go? Up to you. It depends if you want shiny light or a soft diffused look. If you want 3 point lighting or spot, it's really up to you.

Now IIRC, code is a bit weird when it comes to efficiency.. so make sure you have enough LEDs to compensate having some non-efficient lighting.

Well this would be the old school approach since I'm not familiar with what's out there with the LED craze. But I'd go with high intensity low voltage halogen fixtures. They provide a very clean look and won't change the color of the paint. And depending upon the fixture you select can be focussed to accentuate the body lines when place properly.

I spent the last 5 years of working for others (before I went on my own) wiring and servicing new auto dealerships. ;)

A Bentley/Rolls Royce dealership out in the middle of the desert had low ceilings, and took care of lighting with fluorescent downlights for general illumination, and track fixtures with 50Watt halogen MR16 (looks like bulb and reflector of a flashlight) spots to accent the vehicles.
