Hello Everyone,

New kid on the block here but not new when it comes to old tools and machinery. Thought I would show what I recently picked up and plan to restore sometime once I get enough pictures and info to go by. According to the machine badge its a "Shuron 66-A RX Edger #2657 made by the Shuron Optical Company of Geneva New York, USA".
I can't seem to find any info about this wet wheel grinder on the net and believe me I have looked everywhere, but perhaps here someone might have one like it or a complete one I can see. Missing is the bottom 1/2 which was possibly a treadle although all I have to go by is what the previous owner told me. He had it jury rigged to an electric motor and used it many years till he put it out to pastures under a tarp in his back yard.
Another missing part is some kind of tool rest that was bolted onto the front business end. I have no idea what the missing parts looked like and hope someone here has one like it so I can at least reproduce it once I get to restoration.....I honestly doubt I'll see another one available for parts.
Once I have someplace to put it I'll get additional pictures but right now its put away and being huge and totally made of cast iron its not easy to pull out to take pics...in other words its ******** heavy!! I bought it on the fly when I discovered it in some guys back yard collecting dust and rust late in the evening. The little glass oiling bottles for the axle of the grinding wheel are still intact. I'll post what pics I have at this time and perhaps someone can chime in if they've ever seen this exact model. Thanks

Interesting, gotta love old cast iron! I wonder if it was originally for grinding the edges of eyeglass lens, to fit them in a frame?

The more I look this over the more I feel it was for grinding glass which I will find useful. I finally got the ambition to drag it out of my van and since I couldn't find anyone to help me I nearly busted my back lifting it out and setting it on the ground before I could get it into my garage...But not before I got more pics. Making a base for this will be easy since theres just 2 large bolts and body washers holding it onto a thick piece of plywood.
My main concern is figuring out what the parts looked like thats missing from several empty screw holes at the back, top near the water cup and front of the machine. Somewhere on this planet the has to be a few other survives of this exact machine or at least some images. All I can hope for is someone sees another machine like this still being used. In the meantime I'm posting the additional pics I took.

Pretty sure it is for grinding the edges of lenses after chipping the rough shape. As 454 mentioned above. A knife making connection of mine has a few of them. They work OK.

It’s 2023 I know but I just saw this post.. we use our shuron grinder all the time..we’re rebuilding both that we have…they have been in service here for 60 years or so..just a little grease and clean up once in a while and they work fine

Beercan man, thanks for posting those pics!!! This is very helpful.
I finally dug my Shuron 66-A out to put it back into service this week. Mine is also missing everything like OldeTimeEtc’s machine but with much less rust.
