Hello all.
I have a metal shop 40x60 with 18ft sidewalls and a 40x30 apron on the front (North) wall. It has 2) 14x14 doors on the front and another 14x14 centered on the back (South) wall.
The shop has the typical white faced insulation. Not only are the doors not insulated, but they also offer virtually no air sealing, especially at the top of the doorways. For this reason, I'm scared to invest in air conditioning. I'm located just East of Houston were the humidity is insane, so swamp coolers don't really work too well here. If I had better air tightness a large dehumidifier would probably be an awesome addition. I typically open all the doors to try and catch a breeze coming from the South/Southeast, but sometimes that just doesn't cool it down enough. I've been kicking around the idea of either a High Volume Low Speed fan (ie. Big *** fan) or a large shutter fan in the peak of the back (South) wall above the door. I was looking at some of the shutter fans at Northern Tool and they have some reasonably priced units with some pretty big cfm numbers. My hopes are that I could leave the South door closed and just crack the doors on the North end and **** the cooler air from the shaded apron area and create a decent cross breeze while removing the hotter air in the top of the envelope.
Does anyone have any real world experience comparing the 2 different types of fans?
Thanks
