I'm needing a side box with shallow drawers, to hold some of my measuring tools. However Sears has discontinued the chest I posted. Does anybody make one similar? Not looking for a Snappy chest Any of the lower cost units will be fine. Only going to be putting 1-2 lbs max in each drawer. It will be hanging off the side of my red HF 5 drawer. Keith

Several people used to make one. I would look on CL and eBay. S&H on one that small shouldn't be too bad.

Not any more, and good luck. Another great idea from years past.

have you thought about the HF side box. I've seen them put on the carts before. It will give you some shallower drawers and some deeper one for future expansion.

If the were all shallow is be on it in a hot minute. But I'm not to keen on stacking my expensive mics and calipers. I'll drive over and see what the side cabinet looks like. I may be able to make the deep drawers into double stackers

I think I bought the last two of those side boxes in Sears inventory. After I got these two, I went looking for another and none to be found.

I was just flipping thru the Cman catalog the other day to see what those things cost. I saw that they weren't listed but was going to look online.

Now I know, they are gone, I guess I better keep my eyes open at the swap meets for one.

Their site says: 33-1/4 in.

BTW - did you see the link, above?

No I didn't I was on my phone in the shop. I did just now look at it on my computer. That might work, wasn't what I was looking for but with some re-arraigning I might be able to make it work. I'll have to stop at the store and check one out in person to see if it will work.

The guy in San Diego said he will ship me them, but here are his terms. I pay him full asking up front ($40) then he will box them, get a shipping cost, and wait for the difference. I'm not sure why, but I feel like if I send him the $40, I'll them get a shipping charge North of $100. He is saying the box will weigh 50lbs and be 17"x33"13". The cheapest UPS will move it is $88 plus tax. I would be better off $$$ wise with the HF unit over 2 beat Craftsman units. Keith

After rereading your first post (correctly this time ) I'd just go with the HF side cabinet and be done with it. You will still have more in^2 space than the two craftsman boxes combined. Plus you have the benefit of smooth ball bearing drawer slides.

I'd get the HF box, the tools that would fit in that Craftsman box will fit in the top 2, or 3 at the most, drawers, and you'll have the extra space for expansion, and better slides.

Somas it is, I happen to have the exact box 383 originally mentioned. I doubt you'll find a good specimen for 100 bucks though. Bought mine for 210 from my Cornwell guy back in the late 90s. It's an awesome little box and I have to say, it's acually more useful than a standard craftsman middle box or some top boxes.

I've timkered off an on with the idea of selling mine. Mostly because I've downsized some of my tools am find that the current box I have is so big, it fits all my tools as is.

Still if the best I could get was a hundred bucks, I'll probably keep it.
