I live in the midwest. Once spring hits like today (its 70 degreess) and nice days all summer i want to be able to go from the house to the garage (detached) withouout worrying about squirriels or other garbage animals getting into the garage when i am not looking. I also like to have a huge fan near the door to blow the hot....warmer air into the garage without opening the big lift door. I live in the city so i dont want my garage door open or ill come home some day to everything stolen (city livin) and again squirrels....i cant shoot them or id be in jail ....again .....city.

Id like to put a screen door on the side man door to provide some air flow. I have nice wooden one that i have planed down to fit perfectly. I had planned to use some lift off style flag hinges. The problem is im an idiot and that wont work. I cant life the door at all when open since its about 1/16 away from the bottom of the soffit/gutter. I need a way to have hinges that just pop off like some of the fancy cabinet hinges do i guess wiht the little quick release button. Do they make anything like that?

To be clear this screen door isnt a permenent fixture. I want to put it on in the summer when i am out there and take it off quickly when i am not. It would be off entirely in the winter. I planned down the the top and bottom of the door quite a bit....probably too much. To get it open. Its created a pretty large gap at the top around the casing or frame.

at this point i gues im not opposed to putting small screen door handles on both side and left and right sides of the and just lift it into place. I could keep it in place with some of those metal panel flapper snap fastener things from the outside and if im on the inside id have to come up with a wat to keep it in place. Maybe just a hook and eyelet latch on each side to hold in in place.

Anyway....just curious if they make any flush mount quick release hinges or something like that to attach the door proper so it opens and closes like it should. Otherwise ill just go with the "put handles everywhere on both sides that allow you pick it up and move it out of the way" approach.

Pictures? Can you push the screen door father to the exterior so you can lift the door off the hinges when it is open 90 degrees?

Google for quick release hinges. These look like they would work for you.

I have Larsen retractable screen doors (2 of them on my French doors that lead to my deck. Love them. They don't swing open they don't bang like a screen door in a hurricane and have survived 3 years so far. It may or may not work for your situation.

I am using "RolI up screens" that disappear into their frame. They are retractable and don’t require swing space. They are not as robust as a framed door but there are always trade offs.

Is there a reason it can't stay in place during the winter? As far as that goes, simply unscrewing the hinges from the door frame shouldn't be a big deal to do twice a year.

I don't know if exterior hinges are different but knocking the pins out of our interior doors is about 5 min the first time since the pins are always fully seated. But I reinstall them w/ the head about 1/8" from fully seated. Now it's maybe 2 min to knock 3 pins out.

I came here to suggest the same thing. I've had one of these for two years now. No issues.

I like those, I can think of some projects where I want a door “most of the time”!
