Siding done (almost)!

I wanted to show off the barn. after 4 years of waiting to do the siding it's almost done. Well, the parts you can see from the house! The back has all the lower parts done from side to side ,just the upper half to do in the spring.
4 years, a new knee, a lost toe and a few thousand cedar shingles later it's starting to take shape....

There are a few pics from January of this year, right after I installed the two post lift. I didn't post all the build pics because it was pretty standard construction, the only real "fun" was stupidly standing the fully sheathed 30'x16' back wall in one piece with 4 guys and no equipment....
I don't really know how to post to the introduction thread and if this should be there, it was a miracle I could figure out how to post the pic again.��

WOW! Sunbimmer your place is just the kind of inspiration I need for the inside of mine. What a magnificent thing you are doing. I won't even try to get it that cool, but ........Man that is cool. Nice job.

Don't worry about doing an introduction post. You are already here. The "barn" looks like it belongs where it is. Very nice proportions and with a little weathering it will look like it has always been there. Nice.

Thanks for all the kind words. It nice when something comes out pretty close to how it was drawn or planned. The inside, as you can see, has had just about nothing done to it yet. It needs insulation and sheathing andI plan to find something to hook the radiant tubing in the floor up to and maybe something for a little more immediate heat. It's usually cold as hell up here by now and it is going to be needed. I plan on the woodshop going in bay #1, where the Apache is currently parked. I'll keep the center bay for vehicles and metal fab etc.. And the far right bay for the blacksmithing forge and equipment. All of that subject to change, of course.
There is an attic ,to which I still need to build stairs for, that my wonderful wife has claimed for art studio space. It measures 15x32 with an 8' ceiling.
Still lots to do, but really glad I got it mostly sided befor the weather turns bad for the year, shouldn't take long to get it all done in the spring.
Again, thanks for the kind words and the endless inspiration from the group, lots of great ideas here.

Chief - will you ever use shingles on another project? I ask because I never realized how much work was involved in putting them up, I recently put up shingles on two gable ends and two dormers. Yours Looks awesome!!! Did you use a rainscreen behind them?

My building has roughly thirty thousand brick on it so I know you pain in getting the exterior done. Took me a year and change to get it all done, working everyday after work till dark and weekends.

Yes I would, but then again I am a glutten for punishment. I did not use cedar breather behind them, the sheathing is Zipwall, so it is "sealed" from that side and our house has a combo of cedar shingles and cedar clapboards on it just over typar and it is 30 years old and doing good so far, so I just went with it.....we'll see how it goes. I work in construction and we do it both ways, it seems the really high end stuff we do it is called for, and almost never for just regular folks. There are a lot of buildings around here that are 100 years old plus that they did not use it on....
