Hey guys! I don’t suppose anyone has seen any tool chests similar with the open top in the UK have they? Looking to spend around £1k and those boxes are very rarely seen over here. Thanks guys.

Do you really want/need a flip top cart?

I much prefer a roll cab with a deep top drawer for sockets, so I can still use the top as a work surface.

You also lose some internal draw capacity on carts due to vertical screwdriver storage on the sides (much better to have an external organiser)

Used Flip tops do show up on ebay UK fairly often but it's a hassle going to collect.

Try Primetools UK, they often have good deals on quality roll cabs

I have seen the U.S. General boxes for sale in the U.K. - in fact I have a friend who owns a couple - not bad boxes for the money. I just had a quick look however, and I can’t see them at the moment, or even find who was selling them, but there was a good range available.

Supply issues perhaps? Or perhaps they had problems selling them here as ”U.S. General” when they’re made in China?

To be honest, spending up to £1000, you can get a much better box if you wanted. My first choice would probably be a Snap On used. I see every variety on Marketplace, and some are incredibly good value.

Although it’s not exactly what you wanted, you could get a brand new Bott for less money than that. These are pro grade industrial storage, and everything (steel, paint finish, drawer runners) is a grade up from the U.S. General. They’re made in the U.K. so you’re just paying for the box, not all the shipping.

If you wanted a cart, how about a Hazet? These are sub £800, but I know you sacrifice the hinged lid.

Yes - 100 % sure!

Definitely U.S. General - a mate bought two of these exact boxes, in this colour, and they are on his bench now! I was surprised to see them as I thought the name was used exclusively by Harbor Freight in the U.S.

I thought they were good value at the time, and even went as far as looking them up, but I can’t find any trace of them now.

The U.S. Pro boxes are different - not as good.

Sealey sell a similar box to the one above, but not identical, and not as cheap…!

Didn't Machine Mart sell those at one time?

Can you move a deeper drawer to the top and shuffle a couple of shallow ones down to get your sockets at the top?

Then add a screwdriver rack on one side and a prybar rack on the other to deal with longer tools.

Add a wood or stainless steel top and Bob's your uncle, cheap tool cart/workstation.

If you really want a flip top and more space add a top box 🤣
