Looking for suggestions for a small air compressor for my son for Christmas. He is a homeowner not a handyman person. I see him using it for lawn mower tire, bicycle tire and an occassional car tire. No tools or painting applications. I would like something with on board storage of hose, tire gauge, blow gun, type stuff. I remember seeing one at HD or Lowes a few years ago but cannot find it on line.

I have been really happy with my Puma 20 gallon compressor. Oil lube, nice and quiet. For the price I don't think you can beat it.

Pancake compressors are good for this, you can coil the hose around the top, and fasten blow guns and air chucks to it pretty easily too. Also it will be good later for other home owner projects if needed such has nail gun for fence or trim inside the house if he wants to tackle those things. Hell you can even run an impact off one if you really need to, just might have to wait for it to build back up between bolts. Also they are nice and small and can often times fit in a cabinet when not in use (assuming the cabinet is decent size)

Home Depot usually has small compressors on Black Friday for very low prices.

I bought one last year just for air nailer use around the house so I don't have to drag long hoses from the compressor in my garage. It would be perfect for the uses mentioned.

Costco has had in the past and my have now a power pack with a compressor. This makes it portable beyond the reach of an outlet. Also has a USB port for charging phones and running a laptop. Of course, it also starts your car, lawnmower, etc.

I think that is the best all around tool for someone who is not into tools.

I love this little guy. Fills tires, runs an air nailer, airbrush, pretty much any little job. Great for dragging around the house and it's very portable.

I have one of those. They are basically a disposable unit. I didn't get a lot of use out of it before it went south. But, I used it every week a couple times a week for a couple hours. It is quiet. I'd get another for 50 bucks but that's about it.

For just tires, I've been happy with the little 12-volt units you plug into the car's cigarette lighter. You can get some decent ones at your local auto parts store. If you want more of a universal air compressor, any of the small pancake-style compressors would be more than enough.
