I live in a northern state and keep my garage at about 40 degrees all winter. Since my floor is sloped out I get a nice big puddle just being the garage door every winter.

Any reason I can't just put a drain basin in the middle of the garage near the door? Something with drain holes in the bottom and just drain it back to the soil? Anywhere I have dug on my property is 12-18" of dirt and clay then just sugar sand for as far as you can dig.

I don't want to do anything illegal or I'll regret. This part of the garage is only for daily drivers and I don't work on cars on this end (it's tandem 42' deep, "shop" is in the back). I never wash my cars in the garage I just want to get rid of snow melt.

Do what I did, find the deepest point in the puddle and drill a 1/2” hole through the slab. Snow melt won’t amount to much water anyway.
