Simple compressor stand/riser with pads

The stand is made from 2x4s, with rubber pads made from horse stall mat. I wanted something simple to raise the compressor up a few inches to make room for an auto drain valve. Here goes:

Lifting the compressor, with the new 2x4s resting under it:

Holes drilled in the 2x4s and rubber pads, with a 1/2" washer inset into the top of a treated wood 2x4:

1/2" bolt, with a 1" hole drilled to access the nut:

This ended up being pretty inexpensive -- the wood and rubber were leftover scraps. The most expensive thing was the bolts, which were a buck apiece. The total cost was about $7, including the nuts and washers.

Next up -- changing the oil and hooking up the air lines.

You could have put a 90 on the bottom of the compressor along with a pipe ****** to move the auto drain outward where there's more room. This would have eliminated the need for the stand.

Slick... You planning on lagging the PT to the concrete to keep the assembly from walking about?

Good question -- I was originally thinking about doing just that. But I need to be able to move the compressor out of the corner once a year, since it will live behind an open shelf:

I know that setup isn't ideal, but that's really the only spot I can put the shelf. And I don't want to lose the floor space in the corner, so I decided to shove the compressor back there. I think it will have plenty of airflow, as long as I'm careful not to pile anything in front of the pump.

The compressor actually drags pretty well on the new stand -- a lot better than dragging its feet over concrete!

I tried that first -- but the street elbow wouldn't fit without a riser of some kind.

Here's my thinking: I definitely wanted to get the rubber pads under the feet, so I needed at least one 2x4 to be able to drag it across the concrete. Then shielding the end of the 1/2" bolt from dragging across the floor needed at least another 1" riser. So the treated wood 2x4s were the strongest/easiest way to go. :thumbup:
