Does anyone know of a simple program I could use to make a scale drawing of my garage to help me plan the space for cabinets, air compressor, cars, etc? Nothing structural, I just want to see where all the stuff wil fit.
Learning curve was a little steep but after some frustration I went and spent an hour following their tutorials and I wish I had done it from the beginning. I highly recommend Google Sketchup http://sketchup.google.com/

Here's an example of what can be done with Google Sketchup when planning a garage. Yes, every thing is in full 3D, even the cars.
OBTW the walls are framed and Tyvek'd. This week I'm sanding and staining the exposed doug fir rafters, while the metal carport post are being fabricated. I hope to have it dried in by the end of next week.
I love SketchUp as a design tool but it can be awkward to learn at first although it becomes pretty intuitive with practice.
If you're just trying to do basic plan layouts, the Building Planner tool on FBI Building's website is hard to beat. It's free, easy to learn, has symbols for common items preloaded, and there are standard buildings that you can modify or start your own design from scratch.
