So I use Simple Green cleaner a lot. It's one of my go-to cleaning "tools" in the garage and house. I was on their website a couple of weeks ago just checking out the history of the company and what-not, and I found out they are a totally Made In USA product. So I sent in a little note saying that I appreciated that and that I liked their product.

Got this back last night:

Hello David,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are very proud to produce only American-made products, and we are glad that fans like you feel strongly about buying them!

We would like to thank you for being such a loyal fan of Simple Green by giving you a free VIP Kit. Please go to www.simplegreen.com/reward and enter your reward code: XXXXXXX. You may then select a kit of your preference.

Again, thank you for being a loyal Simple Green fan!

Needless to say I was surprised and excited! I chose the "car care" kit as it included a couple of products I have not used. Can't wait to get it. It contains about 4-5 bottles of product and some sort of scrubbing pad.

So I should say of course that I'm not sure if they give everyone who sends them a note a "VIP package", but it's worth a try I guess!

I tend to look at country of origin on most things that I buy, other than groceries, and I've found that the majority of household cleaners and chemicals are still made here.

years ago there used to be an ad with him drinking it to show its all made from safe products as well. im not sure if his brother died or was seriously injured from injesting another chemical, which led him to make simple green.

i read the story forever ago. it was a good one.

Love simple green for cleaning so many things... The only thing that upsets me is the most cost effective size is their 1 gallon... wtf, seriously... I would love to be able to buy it in 5 gallon containers that I can stack but anywhere that does have it you are paying practically twice the price per gallon for the same stuff.

I just bought a gallon of it at Costco and it also came with a spray bottle. sorry I can't remember the price, but it wasn't too expensive.

I sent them an email. We use simple green at work all the time it works great. We had some bottles of simple green aerospace but I have not seen that in a while that might not make it any more.

I use it on my rims it works really well.

I've been using it for many years, but it seems to be getting hard to find.
Menards still has it, but no-where else:sad:

Your local stores may vary, but I've seen it at True Value, Ace, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, NAPA, Tractor Supply, Agway, Target, and Walmart. Just to name a few.

It appears I'm in the minority here, but I don't like using water-based products on things that can rust. If I'm cleaning off tools, I use WD40 on a rag then wipe it down with a dry rag. Water + metal (plated or not) to me just seems like a bad idea.

it seems to be getting hard to find.

The last time I looked for it I found it in the automotive section of a K-mart, not the household cleaner section.

One time I used it to clean the white convertible top on an old Mustang I had. Don't get it on the car finish. It will put streaks in the clear coat. I know this for a fact...

FYI - it freezes and thaws quickly, so don't leave it out in northern climates. Happily, I don't clean much in the winter in the unheated Can-Am garage!

I love simple green. I use it to clean scuba equipment like tanks and regulators that will need to be breathing air quality and may see high oxygen concentrations.

I also just bought the gallon concentrate with a filled spray bottle included. It was on sale at a local chain store here in RI (Benny's), and it was $9.98 + tax. Pretty good deal I thought.

Simple Green is nasty stuff. It does work though. You ought to see their headquarters in Sunset Beach CA. Fabulous building full of art and really nice wood interiors on the bay.

I once had a tenant who used Liquid Nails to fill nail holes in the wall. It was smeared all over the house. I cleaned it off and smoothed it out before painting with Simple Green and a sponge. Worked great !

(This guy also used silicone to repair a door frame he had kicked in, and had poured it down the drain to fix a leak. I had to cut all the pipes out to fix the drains. 10yrs later I still have to keep myself from beating him to a pulp when I see him at the bar. Sometimes Darwinism just doesn't work fast enough.)

I've found it in a spray bottle at Target, in the automotive aisle, not with the household cleaners. Works great for cleaning brake dust off of calipers.

I am not surprised it it US made. I sell pressure washer detergents and they are made here. Now where the raw materials come from may be a different story. Most cleaning products are a high percentage of water (they have to be) so freight becomes a huge pricing concern as water is heavy. Shipping water across an ocean probably doesn't make economic sense.

When I say where the raw materials come for may be a different story, the raws are a commodity just like crude oil. The market is international. An example would be delimonene (spelling?). That is the orange oil in orange cleaners. Some comes from Florida but lots comes from Brazil and I am sure other countries as well. And the price can fluctuate widely due to weather and yields. I have a product that can sell from $700 a drum to $2200 a drum. Makes for a hard sell when the orange crop fails.

The lemon is good for round the house but I don't like the ornge at all.
I use a spray in each hand for hand cleaner. Does a good job. If you spray it on aluminum and wipe it back and forth with a dry microfiber it does a good job of removing oxidation. Not really a polish but a nice clean surface. Clean upper and lower trim on my encclosed trailer with it.

I am going to try Simple Green but I found two different choices at Menards. One is in a spray bottle and is labled "All-Purpose Cleaner", the other in a gallon jug labled "Industrial Cleaner & Degreaser". Can you guys tell me what you use? I am going to use it as a general degreaser in the garage and to remove some aftermarket paint on a vise nameplate. Also any recommendations on diluting it. Thanks guys!

As far as I know, they're the same. Just marketed towards different buyers.

I use it straight. I re-use the gallon jugs and filter the SG through a coffee filter before putting it back in. The used jug is labeled "dirty" so I don't confuse it with the new stuff I use to refill my spray bottles that are used to clean in the house.

I believe this is correct.

I use that stuff for almost everything. It's great stuff! I have heard stories of it staining white grout if you use it undiluted. Not sure if those stories are true though.

I'm a fan of using Simple Green for degreasing clothes and such in the wash.
Helps to pre-treat the really bad spots on jeans and such stained with various shop grease and oils.
I also use it to wash sheets and blankets. After a while, just regular detergents don't take out all the body oils and things are still left with that "human" smell. 1/4 cup of Simple Green added to the wash and hot water wash and rinse tend to make things smell much better.

Around here, Walmart doesn't carry it in anyhing but small spray bottles.
Lowes carries it in the gallon jugs.

I have driven by there a few times, in fact I had one of their sprayers go bad and I contacted them and they sent me a replacement free. I do love SG

Simple green works great on all my laundry stains, clean up around the house and shop. I am going to go to HD and get a couple spray bottles just because they are a proud US company.

Simple Green also takes chain lube off motorcycle wheels.
And wherever else it slings off.

Plus if you use it without gloves, it won't eat up your hands.

Been using SG for many years. I will only use SG to clean our engines as the other degreasers tend to oxidize and stain the aluminum components. The wife uses it to spot clean my work clothes prior to washing machine.
great stuff.

delimonene (spelling?)

Very close d-limonene. The d denotes a particular stereoisomer. It's opposite is l. The stuff angels wonderful. In undergrad organic Chem lab we had the kids extract and distill off d-limonene. I always loved that lab because it made the lab smell great.
