simple toolbox question... kobalt 41" roller?

I quickly got a measurement from my toolbox its 1.5" deep. I'm not sure what Hansen 1/2 socket tray is dimension whys

you know lowes has both of those products, you can grab a socket tray and go to the cabinet and try...not trying to be mean or anything, but thats what I would do.

the 1/2 drive Hansen won't fit in mine... maybe at the very front of the drawer since the drawers angle up toward the back. (less depth at the back of the drawer)

now... since the kobalt wont work, any other suggestions for a nice non-pricey box that has a top drawer with enough depth for the 1/2 hansen tray?

I have the 41" US General from Harbor Freight and I really like it. I have all three sizes of Hanson trays in the top drawer and there is plenty of clearance. Feels like a very high quality box and it's only $320 if you wait till they have a 20% off coupon.

Yeah, that box with a coupon is the best deal out there on a box. I would pick that one over the Kobalt or even the Stainless ones at Sams or Costco

Yep, I'd have to agree on the Harbor Freight boxes. I was really surprised when I checked it out.

I was looking at it recently in the store. Seems to have less drawer flexing than the mid level craftsman units costing twice as much. My Costco SS box has less flex than the HF one but only slightly. To me the HF seemed to flex about as much as my 1980's Snap on box I sold. It seemed like a GREAT value. But I thought about my CSPS box from costco and it turns out it had a hidden design flaw and some shotty workmanship though still a good value now that I spent about 3 hours and $10 fixing those issues.
Go check it out at HF. I have never read a bad review of it and it seems very well made with 4 slides on the heavy drawers to carry heavy loads and little flex. The lower end Craftsman and husky seem plain junky compaired.
Short of shoty welding that could be hidden (and a defect possible on any box) I can not imagine anything but a good value with this HF box. I shopped really hard when I was buying a box a few years back and the CLEAR winners to me were the Costco 41" box and the HF one. I would get the HF box without thinking about it at this time if I was looking for a box.

I also would rank the HF power coated chests over other any other store's house brand. The drawers are much thicker than any Craftsman box or my Husky 41". The drawers also have significantly less wobble/instability compared to the above brands as well. The slides on mine were not smooth and had allot of resistance out of the box due to the dried up factory grease, with a cup of motor oil and a brush...it was very smooth. I really think the power coat tool chest is the best value out there.

hf is an excellent box for the price seems better than my cman 40 tha i've had for years i hope it treats me well for years i would not suggest the top though not enough drawers

i also agree 100% on this. i checked out all the toolboxes from sears, lowes, HD, and costco before i settled on this one. cheapest by far, and seems to be the best built. i would buy it if it was the same price as the craftsman. i have the top and bottom chest, and the rolling cart.

I looked at one of the US General's last time I went into HF. It actually looked pretty nice! It is the highest quality item in an HF store. For those of you that haven't seen one, don't think POS like much of the stuff at HF. I think overall, it's better than all of the C-Man except the Professional line. Pretty good stuff.

+1 on the US General. I was looking at the 40" combo from Sears (site is down, can't get to the part number right now). The combo was $699 right around christmas. Never went on sale again and I checked out the USG from HF.

It's a much more rugged and sturdy combo than the craftsman. Plus I got the side box while I was at it for less than I could get the craftsman combo (remember I never saw that 699 sale again).

I received a flyer that had a coupon for the bottm at $349. Dunno if its stackable with the 20%. I thought I got a decent deal last year with $379 + %15 coupon or something.

I'm a weekend/home-improvement type and it has served me well for the past year. I still like it better than 99% of the current Sears offering they have at the store.

Good value.

Hello all

New here, just wanted to comment on a US General box from Harbor Freight.
I have been looking at these type boxes for about 10 years on and off, Sears and Kobalt mostly as SnapOn is above my price range. Anyway about a month ago I decided I have been looking at them long enough that when they came on sale at HF again I was going to go buy one.
Just got a 41" ish bottom roller cabinet set up today, was on sale for 399, with the online coupon for 20% off made it 320. Is noticeably better than a bottom line Craftsman box I used when I worked at a fab shop. Used the box every day for about 5 years. It wasnt a big 41" ish box, but it did ok with every day use. The Craftsman is now in the basement for lapidary stuff.
For me the Craftsman 41" ish is laid out better, with the deep "small" drawer, and the 2 deep wide drawers with shallower drawers above, better utilization of space, but layout is an individual thing. But, for quality, I think the USG box is well worth 320 even for a person that uses the box every day.

You guys have a part number for the U.S.General 41" roller you're getting for $329 from HF? I see 3 on their site but they're priced at $479, $499 and $579 for just the lower.
