Simple, Tough Height Adjustable Bench?

Does anyone make simple, tough height-adjustable workbenches or leg sets? My budget is a couple hundred dollars. The hydraulic or electric adjustment mechanisms I've found seem to run to the thousands of dollars. So I'm probably looking at something that can be raised with a foot lever or hand wheel.

I'm familiar with drafting tables and computer tables that can be jacked up and down, but those are too wimpy to withstand the pounding I'm planning on dishing out. I'm also familiar with some leg sets you can buy that have height adjustments, but they are not designed to be changed once you install a top on the legs.

Any help?

I do not have any good pics of my chassis table, but I used 4 adjustable trailer jacks with wheels. It works great. My table is 10'x40" 3/8 thick top. I had to have the wheels to move it.

Dude, you're a genius. I'd love it if my height-adjustable workbench rolled too, but I thought it was too much to ask. (Scurries off to price trailer jacks.)<scurries off="" to="" price="" trailer="" jacks=""></scurries>

I bought my trailer jacks at Northern Tool. I was going to weld up my own wheel set up, but they had everything there. I do not remember the price, but i have less than 600 in my whole table. My chassis table weighs over 700lbs, lots of steel.

The worst part is right now it has become a catch all table, with a model A frame, covered in parts for my 1963 fairlane.

Not as easily adjustable as jacks, but maybe more solid would be to build a bench with Unistrut Telespar legs.

Do you think this would work as an adjustable-height workbench base?

We know it has got to be heavy duty. **** two together and it would be uberstable. :bounce:

I will concur that the semi jack legs are a winner. My bench is a cobbled together over the years affair and was thinking one of these days I need to re-do, that is a great idea. I really dont have a problem with height, I tune them at some point and 15 yrs later they still work ok.
