simple wiring question...

drawing a blank here for some reason..

finishing my basement, which i've done all the wiring on. not an expert, but i know my basics. i want to close in my furnace and water heater area. above my furnace is an outlet for the condensation pump for the furnace, it's the only box wired to that area. when i close it off i'll need a light... and i have an old porcelain pull chain lamp holder that would be perfect for the area... this style if you're not sure what i mean https://www.menards.com/main/lighting-ceiling-fans/lighting-hardware-accessories/shade-holders-bases/legrand-reg-porcelain-white-pull-chain-lamp-holder/29816c2/p-1444451099453-c-7525.htm?tid=-6976578565806708009&ipos=41

my plan is to just run a wire out of the outlet box a few feet and into the box for the lamp holder... white to white, black to black, and ground isn't used.. correct? I don't know why i'm drawing a blank here... maybe it's the 3 hours of sleep i had today before coming into work tonight

If using a plastic box the ground is extra/unused. If using a metal box the ground should be landed on the box, typically 10-32 screw.

NM wire is supposed to be secured within 12" of junction boxes, so probably 1 staple will do the job if its as close as I am imagining.

Make sure that box isn't switched.
Often furnace power is switched.

it isn't, checked that. power comes from a separate breaker
