Simple wiring ?

Right this second i,m replacing an old electric coard on my old delta band saw.I,m no electricion but ? is from moter theres only black and white strand.My replacement coard of coarse has 3,3rd being green.What is right thing to do with that green wire?Ground it to moter somewhere,cut it off?If i dont get answer in a few i,ll cut it and read this later to see if i did ok or not.Thanks for your responces.Paul

aka...what gauge cord did you get? You have to be careful what you pick up at HD....the common replacement they have is 16awg....you really want 14 or larger.

The old cord, is it polarized? One prong bigger than the other?

Ungrounded stuff is "double insulated", a good thing. I'd look into it further before blindly grounding.

Just saw your queston,,No one plug is not larger then the other,all i ended up doing was attach green wire from new coard to ground in new plug,other end i unscrewed a bolt on the moter itself and other end of green wire to it.All seems to work well and no sparks or shocks.Also installed new switch as old one had no ground,so i hope i,m set now.Thanks for responces as i said before i,m no electrician,but not afraid to tackle simple stuff.Paul

My favorite tool replacement cord is sold as an “air conditioner extension cord.”
Usually light a flat light tan.
Cut off the female end and you have a nice heavy duty, correctly polarized, cord.
Up to ten feet long.

BTW, as said, connect the green to the motor frame.
