Hey Guys,

My first time really showing anything off on the forums here.. My garage is nearly done. Just one more Table/Bench to build over the long weekend here.

Anyway, since everyone is always out for seeing different bench designs.. I present you my basic, but fully functional work bench to suit my garage needs.

I purchased premium 2x4's at my local Lowes and completed the entire project (w/ plywood for about $150).

As an FYI, I did add more horizontal bracing to support the top before the plywood was put on.

Anyway, on with the pics:

I like the bench looks like there was some thought put into it for your own use. I have the same cabinets like the bigger ones pretty sturdy the smaller ones got to be careful of sag.

ANY CHANCE of putting a sheet of stainless on top? Never mind me i just love stainless tops. :D

Funny you should ask.. I have a pending quote with a local fabricator right now.. I'll be sure to post what I'll be able to get it for. 90degree 4" Backsplash, as well as a 3-1/2" 90degree on the front.

Looks great - nice and simple and sturdy. I like the paint colour....

One question - how high is the bench and how deep did you make it?

thanks,
Matthew.

42" High and 30" Deep... The legs are only 27" deep with the extra 3 to cover the block to sheetrock transition.

The finished product really shows that you went the extra mile as far as initial design and finishing.

Thumbs up!

This is an awesome work bench. Im going to build one very close to this one. Heck just like it. Simple design, sturdy legs heck sturdy all around. Trying to decide to make one 6 or 8 foot. Probably build on 8 foot. The extra 2 foot would be great space.

One question how many 2x4s were used?

I'm new to the site, looks great place to learn.

Thanks, Blueknight :Gun1:

That came out real nice, I've built one very similar but used 2x6's for the legs, nearly identical the way you did yours just put the horizontal 2x4's on the outside of the leg vs the inside. I've built another one the hard way using 4x4's for legs and doing all the appropriate notching, it took quite a bit more time and can't say it's any sturdier or stronger. I don't know what type of paint you used, but like others have said, it looks real nice finished. I always use porch paint on mine, holds up really well.

Looks great. I have similar hardware drawer cabinets under my work bench. Drives me nuts that the top drawers won't stay open because they hit the top over hang.
Going to modify how deep they are set in, notch the top or something.

hvac shops can also bend you a galvanized top, that's what i had done for my lathe bench.
