Ok. pardon the pun, Haha. But I thought it might be cool if all others who had a single car garage post up pics of what they are working with!

As an early 30's owner of a town home with a small one car garage I always find myself trying to see what others have done to maximize their space.

It might be a great way to collectively work on our organization skills or get new ideas for our man/woman caves!

I did a few searches using common keywords but could not find anything so if this has already been done forgive me!

Ill start!

Small single garage owner here. Since this pic I have installed a 60 amp subpanel in the rear of the garage and a 220 electric heater!

It primarily houses all of my projects and motorcycles haha. I will post another when I finally get it clean...been trying for the past 7 years but its a constant battle!

I have 2 single stalls in a 2-story shop/office setup, not oversized and barely any room. In order to paint it, and organize it I literally have to move everything around, and if it's not bad weather outside to the shed/other storage. I have cabinets going 'up' into my stairs, items hung from the hallway in the stairs, and more. The center of my shop also has beams to support the 2nd story so I lose even more room.

It's taken me a good 6mo+ to get things more-or-less how I want them, and I am still installing casters on EVERYTHING to keep it even easier to use/manage such a small space.

Here are two pics showing a before and after... I put away everything on the floor, installed a new 12x48 shelf, re-organized storage under stairs, and obviously the press and pressbrake/fab-storage are rolled out of the way for the pic/cleaning.

In the messy pic you can see the cabinets on the right that I elevated so they could fit 2 side-by-side (well 3 total there) and they go up the stairs for maximum room.
Shelf was set at height to allow rolling carts to be under there, welder with tall tank to fit, etc..

Here are my space savings ideas that I have implemented thus far in my single car garage build. Lots more to do but it a start.

  1. One of the best and easiest ones is to honestly get rid of stuff you don't need or haven't used in a while. I personally have a problem with doing this but when I do I don't look back.
  2. Slatwalls are great to organizing large items like garden tools on the walls. They look great but I find the hooks can get be a bit expensive if you need a lot of them.
  3. Wall cabinets look really clean and hide any loose and odd ball items you may have.
  4. Use the ceiling too, I had about a a foot of space when my garage was opened so I was able to mount some small clear storage bins.
  5. My ultimate idea was to build a rail system into the floor so I could slide my car over as close to the wall as possible. I was able to gain about 2 feet of otherwise unusable space.
