Can someone point me in the right direction for a 90 amp single circuit breaker box to run to my shop? Planning on 2-2-2-4 MHF coming out of the 200 amp panel from the box my POCO installed today. Prefer Square D, since that is what I have installed in shop.

Thanks

Not sure I understand the question? Are you asking about what breaker box to use in the shop? but you say you already installed a panel in the shop.

Inside that panel below the meter in your picture, I think there should be space where you can add a branch circuit breaker to supply the shop.

That meter main doesn't have any spaces. Just a single 200A breaker.

I think I understand the question now. I wouldn't bother with an extra box at the meter. I would just connect the #2 to the 200A as a tap and protect it with a 90a breaker at the shop.

I didn't realize I could do that. I thought I had to add a separate box with a 90 amp breaker right after the 200 amp main breaker. That helps.

Here are pics requested.

are you planning on connecting any other buildings to this service?

Yes you could just connect #2 al to the 200a breaker as a tap.

But lets backup. What kind of loads will you have in the shop? How many people?

You have a 200a service and if theres any chance on more power use in the future you may want to just go with a large wire and be done with it since you have 200a service. all depends on loads though

1. The house will also be tapped off this 200 amp breaker.

2. One person- plans are mig/stick welding, planning on 5 hp compressor, lights are all LED. Possible blast cabinet and or plasma cutter in future- Just a hobby.

House: 1830 sq ft with 3 ton A/C heat pump/gas backup- Standard tank Electric hot water.

Wire run to shop is approx 120 ft. Approx 80' to house .

POCO has said if I ever need a larger transformer, they will provide at their cost.

Thanks for the input.

It's pretty common on farm/acreages. 100A to the shop, 200A to the house, even more buildings could be fed from that 200A breaker as long as the total load is less than 200A

The 200A breaker protects the #2 wire from short circuit and the 90A breaker at the building protects it from overload. You can do taps like that with very few restrictions if it's all outside, inside the distance you can run a tap is limited.
