Single bubble or tyvek for wall wrap?

So I'm about to send the down payment for my 40x40. I asked the builder to install house wrap on the walls before he installs the metal outside. He quoted me $900 for single bubble or $450 for tyvek. My question is which is better? I'm going to put up insulation and metal interior walls. I know that $450 isn't much more but my money is starting to get tight with the extra add ons. $450 is almost what my wall insulation is going to cost. If there is a big advantage to single bubble vs tyvek? I will deal with it but if it's a waste I will have him fix the quote. Thanks again for all the help.

So, if it's being covered w somekinda Rpanel, meaning steel, with an extremely high perm rating, what is being gained by putting Tyvek under it????

The Tyvek is redundant under the steel.

Total waste of $.

Think about it , .... then answer. Marc

A lot more money, but a lot more effective. 2" of spray foam. Pretty much guarantees no air leaks.

Based on this forum I went with Tyvek in between the metal and inside. Now I am sealing that with foam.

I have not decided if it will be 2" spray foam or 1" foam or foam at all the seams/connections.

Either way if I damage a panel I can replace it with minimal work.

I'd use tyvek. If nothing else for use around the windows and doors for another weather resistive plane to flash or seal to with peel + stick. Ive seen a lot of metal-sided buildings on this forum with janky attention to flashing around the windows by builders working at light speed. If they tape the seams and laps it adds some air-tightness as well.

My shop outside is covered with OSB, Tyvek and the the metal siding. If the OP says he'd like to save the $450 I'm betting he's not looking to finance spray foam.

Tyvek is in no shape form or fashion redundant with a steel panel.

When I was building my pole barn I did not use a house wrap. As I neared the end of getting the side metal put up, I hadn't put the sliding door up at the end and the wind was blowing into the building. It was at the point that I realized it was a mistake not using a house wrap under the metal as the amount of air that was being forced out between the panels was quite amazing. That property was sold and I will be using a house wrap on my next building.

Tyvek. The bubble provides almost negligible R value benefit, but is possibly the most espensive 'r value per dollar' product. But you definitely want to control airflow, as above air WILL move through the walls without it.

Let me start by saying I know nothing about construction so that's is why I read and listen to every option I have. Well here was my concern. If I don't wrap the walls and I install batt insulation I was afraid it would start to mild due to moisture between the metal and insulation.

You are correct sir. I would love to have the whole barn spray foamed but I decided that I could save that money and add square footage to the barn instead.

I specified regular housewrap under my metal for the barn currently under construction. Only reason is when I spray foam it, the warranty stays valid for the metal.
