Another cheap suggestion on the floor (until you get your Racedeck, that is)... what about renting a power washer to get all the dirt, grime, and maybe some of the paint splotches up? Just be careful not to hit the newly painted gray trim.

Just a thought...

Id end up doing something stupid if I had a pressure washer. Id be in the house washing dishes or even the shower walls. I have been wanting to scrub that floor though. I'll have to try out some different cleaners i have around the house. Then just hose it out.

Nice Transformation!

Thanks Beetle Bailey!

Derrick,
Another idea for the floor that I have played with (frankly, cause I'm cheap and my floor is already so damaged, in need of repair, etc) is to consider concrete dye. In my case I'd have to grind to level the heaved spots, fill with some concrete type product but I tell myself (delude? lol) that if I stained the floor right I'd make the crack repairs look kinda like veins in stone. Then I'd add other "veins" to mask the fact that some are crack repairs and finally put a low gloss sealant on it all. If it looked like **** I could always put the ceramic tile I'd originally planned over it.

I like the idea of painting your door the same silver/blue/white as the rest of the garage, BUT to keep the door from entirely disappearing I'd paint the door frame one solid color - likely the blue or the silver cause the white would get dirty too easily. Just an idea. You've got nice taste so whatever you pick I'm sure it will look great.

A source I've been looking at:

I'm still working on the blue door. I'm planing on putting a large Yamaha logo up there in white. I think it will turn out pretty nice.

You hung it! Awesome. Makes me wish I had a little mini just so I could show it off like this. Very cool.

Now get that big boy bike hung up from the other side! Lookin' good...

 It might take a little more effort to get the other one up that high. Hopefully an actual motocycle lift will be in my future for that one. :rocker:

I found some neat looking insulation im going to cover the garage door with. Its like shiny bubble wrap. Im trying to hold myself back from popping them. Haha

Where did you get the insulation and what is it called.

BTW - WOW what a difference and great job!

As for the steps, I think I'll paint them gray.
</snip>

I've always been partial to safety yellow for steps. Might be a bit stark though.

Damn, that's a nice transformation. Build some new steps. The garage deserves them!

AFA the floor, yes, the great finish work makes the floor look worse. For now, you could caulk the cracks and paint it. It will sweep and clean much easier and look super in pics. ;):D

I wish there was a cheap sheet floor to cover a bad floor. Mine makes yours look like a skating rink. And it's so out of level that I'd trip on Race Deck laid over it. :)

I bought the "Reflectix" insulation from Menards.

New steps are in the plans for sure. Maybe I will paint the floor until I can afford Racedeck, hell it could be years before I have that much extra cash to spend on the garage floor. I've got linolium flooring from the late 70's in the kitchen, bath, and laundry room. I'm afraid my other half would frown on me getting the the garage floor before the inside floors done. :dunno:

man, if you look at the first picture and the last.... :eyecrazy:

The blue door is taste i think... it is screeming (on picture, real life may be different)
With your transformation i would go for a blend in effect...

about the racedeck.

there are other systems that are cheaper and might be a good compromise.

Here in europe, racedeck is much more expensive than in us... i can not talk my wife into 150m² racedeck. some alternatives can't handel heat or car/bike related chemicals. so cheap isn't always better.

I found a EU alternative to racedack at 18€/m² Racedeck selling at 44€/m²
this is high industrial floor. (no problem with heat, salt or chemicals) with good warranty. Eu made (not china import) and tiles are 50x50cm (so 4 in 1m², racedeck 10,75 in 1m²)

i found look alikes for 12€/m² but they give no warranty on salt, chemicals or color fading; they are much more flexible, they tell you they can't handle heat. and in the same mail they claim there is no heat problem if you use it in a garage.:headscrat I think they are just overpriced rubber tiles. ;)

I agree, the blue door is BOLD. I'm not 100% sure I really like it yet. I'm sure once I get some graphics on it and maybe a diamond plate kick plate, it will look pretty good. Thanks for the photoshop, I was really wanting to see what that scheme would look like!

My neighbor works at a cabinet store and knew i was looking for some cheap used ones. He dropped these off at my house and wouldnt even let me pay him for them. So i gave him a 12 pack of of Miller Light.

Nice score on the cabinets!

I also have a one-car about the same size, 12-1/2 X 25. Several years ago, a neighbor gave me a whole set of metal kitchen cabinets that he removed during a remodel. Painted 'em red and they match the toolbox nicely!

Thats sounds pretty nice. Metal ones would be ideal.

If I can make another suggestion? If you're gonna use a shiny aluminum diamond kick plate on the door why not cover the existing stair risers with the same diamond plate, then paint the treads the silver/gray and use that anti skid black sandpaper type stuff on them to make them safe. This way you DON'T have to rebuild the steps (I'm assuming they're structurally sound).

Oh and PS: there's a guy in eBay that'll make a vinyl graphic of pretty much whatever type, size and color you want. Maybe a big Yamaha graphic vertically, or a high contrast silhouette of Mike Hailwood through a hard turn? Whatever cool motorcycle related thing you like!

I like that idea Dan, I might have to run with that. The steps there now are just too small for big feet. Also, they are just barely bigger than the hole beneath them that goes into the crawlspace. So, when they wiggle around a bit they become unstable.

As for the vinyl decal I want for the door, theres a graphic shop here in town I need to go talk to get this made...

Derrick,

Yeah, those steps are in funky shape. Too far gone for the nice garage you now have. Rebuilding should be fairly easy and will give you nice flat surfaces to attach the diamond plate if you decide to go that way.

I like that graphic and the version you posted looks high resolution enough to easily be made into a large size. It'll look GREAT. Make sure to post pic's asap.

Check out THIS link:

I notice he says he'll make metallic chrome graphics. How frickin cool would that be over those diamond plates?!

Thanks for the comments guys. I haven't had much to do play in the garage lately but, I did manage to hang a couple cabinets. Now I'm trying to figure where to hang the two 24" deep cabinets. I'm thinking stack them and put them up to ceiling in the corner to the right of the man door (cabinet doors towards the door man, maybe the other way?). I want to take the plastic shelving units out to the shed.

Any progress on the Factory Yamaha Sign/logo for the door? looking forward to seeing it =)

Money has been pretty tight lately. For some reason the other half doesnt think a big sticker for the garage is very high on our list of priorities. :dunno: I did however get some painting done today!

Lookin good bud... I like how the blue paint is matching the blue in your bike. Nice touch. I never noticed that before until just now.

You're getting down to the details now, which has got to be a great feeling. Looks like you'll be in the clear before the winter weather hits.

Stick to your guns and get the sticker. If you don't have to have it right now, budget for it. My wife didn't understand certain parts of my garage build (all of it, actually) until it was finished. Now she gets it.:rocker:

Progress is extremely slow, but i finally bought a pegboard. Id like to paint it black soon and put some lights above it.
