From the pic you posted yesterday, it looks like your single garage is getting a lot of action! I do think it is lacking a big sticker, though. Just sayin'.

Great call -- and a BIG impact for little $!

And Happy New Year to you, yours, and your rockin' revamp!
Thanks Marty! Right back cha!

My son and I do have fun hanging out in there and tinkering on stuff. As far as the sticker goes, you're preachin to the choir! I really like your placement of decals and such on your walls. I'd like to do something similar but im afraid they'll look like I just slapped them on kinda spur of the moment. Yours look very well thought through, nice work.

Progress is extremely slow, but i finally bought a pegboard. Id like to paint it black soon and put some lights above it.
2013-01-05_21-32-56_862.jpg

Black? You hard over about that because nothing else in there is black. The gray color seems more appropo to me. But since you're paying for it & it's your garage, I GUESS it's your decision, ha ha!

Just being a PITA here but your pegboard sticking out beyond the cabinet above is "pinging" my OCD. Maybe trim it to the same width?

Everything looks great though.

But, then it will not line up with the bench and my OCD will kick in!

I know what you guys mean about the stuff lining up, I was unable to sleep some nights just thinking about it before I ever bought the pegboard. haha It will look better when I get rid of the cabinet on the floor and relocate my stereo. Painting the pegboard gray is also a good idea.

They weren't using this steel table anymore at work, so I asked what they were going to do with it. They said if I wanted it, I could have it. Score! Now, I need to find someone to make the legs about 5 inches longer and the table itself about 8 inches longer so I can use my bike stand on it. Then I'd like to paint it up real nice.

Hey man, Great score! How about instead of extending it you add a front wheel guide? shoud give you the length you need :) and for the height how about some heavy duty locking wheels so you can move it aside easy too? just throwing it out there :)

Heres a crude drawing of what I mean and I have a track similar, ready for my table :)

Good score on the table! It looks narrow enough to live adjacent to the garage door opening when it's not being used. Some HD casters and a 'bolt-on hinged flip down' wheel guide and you're good to go.

P.S. - Don't forget the detachable aluminum load ramp too!

Just found this thread and gotta give you thumbs up for Awesome Transformation from ugly old paneling to Yamaha blue garage!! :rocker:

Love the Honda mini-bike!! No doubt that will be wonderful fun time for your son, just as it was for you. Your solution to hang it is great. If you've priced those oldies, you'll be shocked . . . it's a KEEPER!!

Couple questions, you planning on any heat in there? Electric heat maybe? The window trim color going to be blue . . . or what?

I'd also recommend using the space above cabinets to take advantage of off-floor storage . . maybe something homemade with flip up doors? What would be cool is clear plexiglass doors that run the full width of garage. That would give you a place for big Yamaha vinyl graphic?

Also in retrospect, aren't you wishing you upgraded the electrical with more outlets, etc. (like over by bench, freezer in corner, up near garage door, etc)? At minimum, I'd recommend running conduit now from existing outlet over to the corner where freezer is at. That extension cord has got to go!

Overall FABULOUS transformation. Great work and a fine place to house the Yammer!

Thanks for the kind words. You're right about that, I have priced the old Honda mini bikes and they so cost a small fortune. As well as NOS or aftermarket parts.

As far as heat goes, I have a small space heater that does supprising well if left on for long periods of time. Haha. You can see it in the pics I posted a few days ago. I have been planning on painting the window trim blue. Its become somewhat of a sticoma.

I like your storage ideas as well as the plexiglass and vinyl decals. That would look awesome. Unfortunately, money is pretty tight so its slow going. However, I have spotted a Yamaha banner on Ebay thats 3'x5' that would go great between the window and cabinets.

Everytime I go out there I wish I had installed more outlets. lol Im definitly going to have to do something to get rid of the extension cord. I realize its not only unsightly, but also dangerous. I'll have to look into running conduit like you said. Thanks again!

I enjoyed your new photos. I imagine anyone driving by your garage would have to do a double take. You can really see what kind of flooring issues you are dealing with in a couple of them. Have you come up with any strategy to deal with your floor? I know you were considering a few options earlier.

Great build in a small space! One thing to consider is that you have a lot of storage room above the garage door tracks with some hangy-down racks.

Thanks, and very true.

Yeah there pretty bright! Especially compared to the one light bulb that used to be in there. Lol. The floor... since im a cheapskate, ill probable grind the edges of the cracks and and squrt some filler in them. Then just paint it. I really like the Racedeck (especially yours) but im not sure how it would work on the big uneven cracks. Ever since i joined the forum here, i wanted this guys floor---> http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24456 18 inchers. Ohhhh yeeeah.

My fiance gave me the go-ahead on a Racedeck floor! I'll be ordering as soon as the tax return comes in. Now comes the hard part, deciding on a style and color scheme. I definitely want alloy in it, since i matched my lower walls to that exact color. And the ribbed style is really starting to grow on me. I'm having a tough time deciding. What do yall think? I know there are some creative people here!

You should match all three colors in your garage...

Something like this maybe?

Or maybe this...

Funny you should say that, I was just wondering how the "Royal Blue" would match my blue paint. Thats a great idea. Thanks!

Looks great. Thought about painting that cabinet under the stereo to match everything else?

It's always great to see another creative single, not much to work with (as is my case) but still made to look nice and useable.

Thanks dubber, I have thought about that. I ran out of my custom "Alloy" paint mix. lol. Its supposed to only be temporary until I get some more cabinets. You're garage is looking nice as well!

Jealous. I secretly wanted a single car just so I could do racedeck. The price for a 2 car I just can't justify
I hear ya there buddy! It's barely justifiable for a single car, but what the hell. You only live once right. haha

As far as the floor goes, I think I'm going to stay away from the white. Also, I decided to go with the "Diamond" style instead of the "Free Flow". Anyhow, this is what I really like. Opinions?

Just trying to get an idea of what it might look like. haha

I like the design you've come up with, but does your design match the actual dimensions of your garage? Another thing I'd check before I pulled the trigger on the Racedeck is to find out how 'flat' the floor needs to be according to the instructions or their CS 800#. It looks like you've got some serious 'plate tectonics' going on there and the RD may not lay well enough to lock together or it may be so catawampus that the tiles pop up every time you roll the bike in. A thick skim coat of self-leveling concrete may get you flat, but you also may have to fight the frost heave in Illinois. As you did early on with the paneling when you decided to re-do it with sheet rock, you may just decide to bite the bullet and rent a jackhammer and go to town. If you are going to live there for a few years, it might be worth the time, effort, and money to 'Do It Once, Do It Right'. Just my $0.02 so you don't piss and moan later on to your S.O. about how you 'shoulda, woulda, coulda'; she won't want to hear it! lol

Very valid points you have there. I'll be a little more technical when actually ordering the panels. The garage is actually 11' 6" x 21' 8". Then down towards the door, the width goes down 3" as you can see in the pictures. I'll be getting the 3" beveled edges on one side and under the door. I've still got a couple weeks before ordering to get more exact dimensions. I have a few samples of the Racedeck that I've snapped together and placed over the "fault lines". Then, proceeded to trample over them trying to disrupt the composition and surprisingly, they stayed together. The floor is in rough shape, but I really don't want to bust it out and re-pour. I'd rather just cover it up and forget about it. Although, I realize certain spots will feel a little funny when walking or rolling across. Hopefully in a few years we'll be in the market for a bigger and better house (and garage). Thanks for the advice. Thats what I love about this place!

Good luck saving money for the flooring . . . I LIKE your design.

Couple other low cost ideas for you:
1) consider introducing black color just for trim around full-size door into the house
2) black trim around hanging cabinet doors (would accent the gray)
3) gray pegboard, but then trim it with some wood framing painted black (reduce pegboard size to match size of upper cabinet)
4) black trim around glass window

About your electrical, do you have attic access?? You could locate the areas between studs and drill through the top plate, then fish tape down wall and install plastic outlet box, and pull Romex wire back up and tie-in with other electrical. That way you wouldn't have to run conduit.

Another space-saving idea is a wall-hanging shelf/basket that would be just above the freezer in corner. It would have tracks on wall and slide out horizontally to the right when you wanted access to freezer?? :dunno:

Good luck and keep pics a coming!
