size wire for heat pump

Can anyone tell me what size wire i need for a 3.5 ton unit. I have the two wires coming off the air handler upstairs but dont know what size wire for the unit outside. thanks for any help

Probably # 10 unless it is a really long run. Long runs I will run #8.

Manual (or plate on the condensor unit) will tell you amperage draw. From there you can figure out what size wire you'll need for the rated amperage based on electrical code.
