I am installing a mini split in a 30x40 shop with 12 foot walls with 2x6 studs and a cathedrial ceiling. The garage door is 10x10 insulated and Insulation is spray foam. I am located in central Texas looking for advice on the size of mini split to install.

Guesstimate? Probably a 3 ton but you need to do a proper load calculation for a design temperature of 75F w/ an outdoor design temperature of 96F for central Texas.

To do that you need to need to know the R value of the walls, ceiling, types of windows, doors, desired humidity, etc.

For comparison..... I live about 30 miles SSW of Fort Worth.

I have a 40x50 metal building with 2" of closed cell foam on all walls and under roof. 12 foot walls with a peak about 17'

One 10x12, one 8x10 panel doors, two walk in doors - all insulated

Four 3x4 double pane windows

I have two 24k Senville units installed. They keep up well with summer so far. They also do an amazing job of removing moisture from the air.
