Can anyone help me put a date on when this set was in stores? I got it off of Facebook marketplace a while back for $100 and as far as I can tell it was a heck of a find. Sets like this with just SAE sockets in this good of condition aren’t cheap or easy to find, let alone shallow and deep with SAE and Metric. Seems to me that it’s pretty rare. I can’t even find any other pictures of this exact set on Google images.

It's relatively late-production stuff (large font stamped on the sockets, plain single bands), but prior to their going to the green plastic blow-mold boxes. The 40975 "Tuff-1" ratchet might be a date indicator - you'd have to pore through catalogs to see when it was introduced, and when it was included in a set like that - S-K Tools at International Tool Catalog Library.

Agree with four.cycle. FACOM owned S-K from 1985 thru 2005. The Tuff 1 rat (as well as the 'fatbob' logo lettering) kinda give away the rough dates. But I've seen NOS stuff turning up for years, so.....

Overall good stuff.

^ definitely. fabulous stuff. there seems to be something of a love/hate relationship with that ratchet design - I've never owned that model so I can't speak to that, but the late-production S-K I've had in my hands was damn nice stuff, until you got down to the itty-bitty ones, which seemed to be broached off-center more often than one would expect. (mentioned in another thread here.)

Personally I was never a fan of the ultra-fine tooth rats in general but after getting a TUFF 1 I liked it.

The only problem is after FACOM let S-K go (right before they themselves got bought by Stanley Black and Decker) is they didn't allow them the license to continue making the TUFF 1's. So S-K was reduced to what inventory they had on hand, and rebuild kits are hard to come by reasonable. Kinda sad, as the 1/4" and 3/8" Tuff 1's are nice in alot of circumstances.
