I'm still going through my Dad's tools and have come up with three SK ratchets.
The first two are clearly stamped 42470 with the patent number in different fonts, but the third ratchet does not list either and simply says CUSTOM with the SK in a diamond.
I'm guessing the first two were standard issue in sets, but I don't have any idea about the CUSTOM.

Never saw a "Custom" designation on any SK ratchet. But I once had a Williams 1/2 drive special ratchet that had a 7/8" (?) socket permanently attached via a pin, and not via a regular detent. Does your 42740 look normal other than the stamping?

Your Williams was probably a scaffold ratchet.

re scaffold ratchet: That seems probable. I'm really curious about the OP's "Custom" 42470 ratchet. I don't think I've ever seen any SK with oddball markings.

I've come across and have several " SK Custom" ratchets. My understanding that they were part of the "Peg Pack" campaign that were distributed exclusively at auto parts stores, with Ratchets and wrenches being sold individually. All the ones I've seen have the unfinished selector knob and the finish on the beam is not as nice the 42470's. My guess is that they were targeted towards competing against imports at the time. The one in the pic below is a "SK Custom".
