SK 4498 Spark plug socket set.

I am considering picking up this set but i am looking for more reviews other than the two on amazon. Does anybody on here have this set?

I have one of out the set a non flex, got it in a misc box of stuff. I think they are a bit shallow compared to other brands. I honestly like my craftsman ones better. YMMV. I can check later what exact number it is.

When they have the 9/16 you know it is a complete set. The fact it is sk would be enough to sell me. I got this matco set, but would rather the sk. The price is good. I think mine was around $100.

This might be a dumb question, but are the sockets and extensions in this set interchangeable? i.e., the 9/16 can be removed and put on the extension that the 5/8" is on?

Just checked 4424, 3/4" is the one I have. The hex recess is VERY shallow compared to others, not much over 1/8" deep.

no. those are two piece extension/socket that don't separate. they use a ball type swivel for smoother rotation and the fact that they don't separate, means you won't leave a socket stuck on plug that you have to fight with.
Gearwrench offers most of them cheaper.

no. those are two piece extension/socket that don't separate. they use a ball type swivel for smoother rotation and the fact that they don't separate, means you won't leave a socket stuck on plug that you have to fight with.
Gearwrench offers most of them cheaper.

I guess I don't understand how they determine what socket size should have what length extension on them?

It seems to me that you would be better off having sets like this one where each socket is the same size (in this case 5/8") with varying lengths of extensions?

I did see in this months flyer from Matco a complete spark plug kit is 77.80 + tax.

I like SK tools as much as the next guy, but no way I pay that much cash for spark plug sockets with rubber inserts.

They are not able to be removed. They are one piece and are kind of similar to an impact swivel, in that they don't have as great a range of motion as a universal. I have that same set, and its well made and I like the fact that it has a magnet but I like the ones that are detachable a little more I think a little bit more versatile when it comes to fitting it in places.

No, they don't come apart. Some really smart person must have know how long an extension I needed on a particular size.

They must have done some analysis to determine the most popular sizes per vehicle for the socket. They then must have matched the extension that would be needed for that vehicle and viola...then the swivel was adding for flexibility.

Have that exact set, they are great. No problems at all.

I have that exact set, plus some BGS and Craftsman spark plug sockets. The SK set is about the same quality as the Craftsmans. The rail it comes with is pretty much useless. I don't know why SK didn't go with a nice blow-molded case like they did with their cheaper impact swivel socket sets. In terms of overall fit and finish, the chrome is nice, the rubber inserts... not so much. The u-joint sockets flop around a lot, but that's not a big deal for me. To be honest and in retrospect, the SK set is overpriced (It should cost about half of where it's at,) but I got them using a gift card, so no big. If I were doing it all over again, I'd find a plug socket set with a nice blow-molded case and metrics.
